Pros
When it comes to things that are good in this game, for us there is a lot. The graphics for one are absolutely incredible, especially if you played it on PC. There is a new Director’s Cut that adds a bunch of new stuff to the game and it also optimized it a bit more. The story is also a very good part of the game. It is almost like you are watching a movie at times.
If you played the Last of Us 2, you will know how it was actually difficult to determine what was a cutscene and what wasn’t. This game does this very well. The character models are extremely detailed and the movements are literally just like real life. The best part of this game is the environment and the atmosphere.
It is creepy, beautiful, and odd at the same time. From the horror aspects of the BTs to the beauty of the landscapes, this game can only be summarized as breathtaking. Even if you don’t like the gameplay itself, you have to admit that this isn’t one of the best-looking games out there.
Cons
When it comes to the aspect in the game that is not so great, we do wish that the combat system was a bit better. You do get weapons later on in the story, but when you first start out, you only have a punching button. When trying to fight off an entire group of Bandits, it can be extremely frustrating to get all your items stolen from you.
It is also very annoying when you get lost and need to backtrack all the way back to an area and it might extend your trip twice as long as it should have been. The time it takes to get from point A to point B takes a decently long time. This is where the walking simulator has been slapped onto the cover of the game for some people.
Yes, it is a massive part of the game, but it could be a pro or a con for some people. I myself enjoy these long trips because you can follow your own path whichever way you want to go. Other people don’t like how long and tedious these trips are since it takes a decently long time to finish each run. It definitely could be up to the opinion of the person playing.
Is the game worth it at full price?
This question can be hard to answer since every single person is different. We held off playing this game for a long time because how a lot of the community said that this game is boring. We tried it and we were pleasantly surprised. We really enjoy the game and would have probably paid full price for the game. Since the game is a few years old, we got it on sale.
If I knew how fun the game was going to be for myself, I would have bought it as soon as it came to PC, but I am the type of person to pre-order games before they come out. If you don’t want to spend the money on a full $60 game, you can literally get this game for pretty cheap.
Obviously, the Director’s Cut is a bit more expensive, but it is definitely worth getting because it is the all-around better version of the game. It is going to be difficult to determine if you are going to like the game or not so it can be hit or miss with certain people. Just know that if you know you are going to like it, buy it at full price.
If you are unsure, try to get the game in a sale. It doesn’t hurt to wait a bit longer before playing it because it does suck up a bunch of your time if you are going to play it. Don’t look up any spoilers and when you do get it, you can enjoy the game to your heart’s content.
