With so much verticality in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll climb all sorts of surfaces to reach your desired locations. Sometimes, you’ll run into surfaces that are impossible to climb, like a mountain wall when wet while it’s raining.
Luckily, the devs have an answer to every problem in the game. You could craft an elaborate contraption, but that is too clunky. If you want to scale subtly, you must make a Sticky Elixir. What is this elixir, and how can you craft it to climb wet walls in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Let’s find out.
What is Sticky Elixir in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
When you are out adventuring, and it happens to be raining, you’ll notice if you attempt to climb a mountain or any sheer wall, Link will start slipping quickly and barely make any progress before his stamina runs out and you fall to the ground. You are not supposed to climb walls under these conditions, but there are ways.
You could cut down trees, glue them together, and make the world’s most awkward ladder to the top. Or, you can come up with a janky gizmo with the Ultrahand ability and fly to the top.
Fortunately, Sticky Elixir is the most reliable way of climbing wet surfaces. This special concoction, when consumed, gives Link the capability to scale wet surfaces for some duration, giving you enough time to climb your destination. You must carry some stock of this handy elixir cause you never know when it rains in Hyrule.
Note: Sticky potion will not completely stop you from slipping on wet walls. It only reduces the frequency of slipping, giving you more control while climbing such surfaces. It’s incredibly helpful, but don’t expect to turn into Spider-Man when you take a sip.
You can find Sticky Elixir in some chests, but the most manageable way is to craft it yourself. All you need is either a Sticky Lizard or Sticky Frog, which you can combine with any Monster Part and then throw it in a Cooking Pot to brew.
Finding Sticky Lizards and Sticky Frogs
Let us figure out where you can grab some Sticky Lizards and Sticky Frogs in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Do keep in mind that you don’t need both of these materials to make the elixir, you only need one of the two:
- Sticky Lizards are commonly found inside caves, tunnels, and wells. Don’t run towards them, or they’ll get startled and run away. Crouch and slowly approach them or it’s best to shoot them with an arrow from afar and then pick them up. Set your Sensor + to detect Sticky Lizards to make tracking them easier when they are nearby. You can also buy them for 32 Rupees each from Beedle at South Akkala Stable.
- Sticky Frogs are often found near bodies of water such as lakes and ponds, as well as inside caves and cliffs particularly in the West Necluda and Lanayru Great Spring regions. You need to be careful approaching them since they, too, are panicky. Again, you can track them with Sensor + for easy tracking. These amphibians can be bought for 40 Rupees each from Beedle at Lakeside Stable or East Akkala Stable.
Choosing Monster Parts
There are a ton of Monster Parts in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The choice of monster parts and how many parts you use during the crafting will dictate the duration of the effect of Sticky Elixir. Below are all the monster parts and the duration they add:

Since climbing can be long and arduous, especially in rain and when facing a giant wall or mountain, it is better to craft a few Sticky Elixirs using monster parts like Dinraal’s Horn that provide 30 minutes of uninterrupted climbing. You can also pile a bunch of other parts to boost the timer.
When rain in Zelda: ToTK suddenly turns a routine task of climbing into such a nuisance, you must not discount the utility of the Sticky Elixir. Wet walls will ruin your fun in many instances. Trust me, I have many sessions where I completely ignored a task just cause it’s raining, and I couldn’t be bothered to scale a pesky cliff in between.
