Found in Finger Ruins of Miyr, Metyr Mother of Fingers is an optional legendary boss in the Elden Ring DLC. This centipede-looking fusion of fingers is not only a heavy hitter but also quite proficient in the art of sorcery.
Metyr uses a mix of physical and magic attacks to turn its opponents to dust. This handy guide will provide you with every bit of information about Metyr Mother of Fingers in Shadow of the Erdtree so you have an easier time putting it into the ground.
Fighting Metyr Mother of Fingers
This giant culmination of fingers has more than a few tricks up its sleeve, or should we say, up its fingers. Jumping in blind will lead to unnecessary deaths and multiple tries. That is why you should learn about it as much as possible.
Moveset
Here are all of the attacks Metyr will use against you:
- Arm Swing: Using the arms at the front of its body, it tries to do multiple swipe attacks.
- Counter: Dodge backward multiple times to avoid the attack. It will always spread its arms before the attacks so you will have an easier time predicting the attack.
- Arm Smash: Metyr will use its arms to do a smash attack on the ground. The attack starts with it using a single arm but it ends the combo by interlocking the fingers of both of her hands and then smashing them on the ground together.
- Counter: There is a split second where it will raise both of her arms in the air before starting to smash. Just roll back multiple times to dodge. She won’t remain stationary but will progressively move forward throughout the attack.
- Body Smash: The boss will stand up on its hind legs, stay there for a moment then smash its body on the ground with full force. If you get crushed beneath its body, you will take heavy damage.
- Counter: Roll to either side to dodge the attack.
- Body Leap: It will once again stand on two legs, and use its front arms to tear its body open releasing a bunch of little fingers that will deal damage upon contact. Metyr will end the combo by lunging toward you to crush you under its body.
- Counter: Roll to the left or right multiple times to get to a safe distance from both the little fingers and the giant finger monster slam.
- Laser Beam: Metry will use this attack when you get too far from its attack to physically reach you. Its head will charge and release a beam of laser towards you. It will also track you while the laser is being shot out.
- Counter: You can either roll to either side multiple times or you can roll forward to the safe zone directly below its head. The latter is more risky but you can land multiple hits because Metyr is incapacitated during this attack.
- Minion Summoning: This attack is similar to body leap but this time along with little fingers, it will also summon Colossal Fingercreepers.
- Counter: Lure the Fingercreeper far from the main boss and take it on separately before returning to Metry.
- Single Arm Smash: If you stay on one side of the body for too long, it will twist its head towards you and will try to smash you with its front arm.
- Counter: There is a small window between it facing you and then smashing you with its hand. Use the opportunity to change your position and possibly gain some distance.
- Leaping Attack: Metyr Mother of Fingers will bend down a little bit and then leap towards you several times and each time the purpose is to crush you with its gargantuan body.
- Counter: Much like other attacks, distance is the best option to avoid taking any damage. As soon as you see it crouching and getting ready for the attack, run away.
- Finger Crawl: If you are constantly sticking to the side of Metyr’s body, it will try to flick you with its fingers on the side and if the attack lands, it will deal heavy damage.
- Counter: Don’t stay on the side for very long and if it is too late to move to the front, either roll towards the attack or roll backward twice.
- Phase 2 Explosion: When you bring Metyr Mother of Finger’s HP down to 50%, it will charge up its body and let out two explosive AoE attacks inflicting heavy damage through the area.
- Counter: Run as far away as possible and if you can’t, just roll forward at the exact moment the wave is about to hit you.
- Tail Orb: Metry will start to levitate in the air while subsequently charging an orb at its tails. When it’s fully charged, it will shoot the orb towards you.
- Counter: Roll forward at the exact moment when the orb is about to hit you.
- Event Horizon: This is quite possibly the most dangerous attack. The Mother of Fingers will rise in the air and shoot out lasers in multiple directions. The laser will shoot at least two to three times in all directions.
- Counter: You can tank the attack if you have the necessary items to negate the magic damage or you can run forward and roll multiple times to stay in the tiny safe zone between each laser.
- Microcosm Field: The boss will first raise both of its arms and then stand up on its legs to spawn explosive orbs around you. These orbs explode both on contact and after a set time.
- Counter: As soon as you see the signs of the attack, roll to the right multiple times to get out of the effective area. If run away too soon, the boss will just change location and spawn around your new position. Time it correctly so that the boss can’t do it.
- Levitating Spin: During the final stretch of the battle, Metyr will float in the air, start spinning then launch itself towards you. When it lands on the ground, it also sends out a shockwave.
- Counter: Much like every other attack, run as far away as possible when it starts to spin in the air.
- Kowtower’s Resentment: The boss will raise its head, focus magical energies around it, and then smash it on the ground sending out an explosive energy wave in the area.
- Counter: The AoE is only towards the front of the body. You can either run to the side or towards the back to avoid taking any damage.
Weakness
Metry Mother of Fingers is weak against Bleed.
Rivers of Blood, Morgott’s Cursed Sword, Ghiza’s Wheel, and Meteoric Ore Blade are all great weapons that inflict Blood Loss. While it is specifically weak against bleed, in our experience we found that Frostbite and Scarlet Rot are also quite effective against Metyr Mother of Fingers in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Strategy
Let’s look at how we can take down this creepy crawling finger monster:
Phase 1
Once you are teleported into the arena, Metyr won’t engage in battle unless you walk forward. This is your chance to use any enhancement spells or summons you want. We suggest you summon your Mimic to help you through the battle as it will take some aggro off you.
Now, once you walk forward and the battle does start, if you take your time going forward, Metyr will use the laser to attack you from a distance, and if you close the gap quickly, it will most probably kick things off with Head Slam. Dodge by roll to the side and land a couple of attacks while it is still recovering.
If you look closely, there is a giant exposed mass of fingers just below its neck at the front of its body. That’s Metyr’s weak point and that’s where it takes the most damage.
You should focus on hitting its weak point over and over again. You will have to occasionally run away because of the AoE attack but other than that, you should stick close to its body. You can break its stance and land critical hits but doing so will come with the risk of dying.
As mentioned before, don’t stand on the side of your body for too long because it can flick its fingers on the side and catch you off guard. Stay on your toes and constantly move around. Aside from its Event Horizon attack, every attack is easy to dodge. Even the AoE attacks have massive safe spots that you can exploit.
The attack pattern remains the same throughout the first phase so get past it quickly because the pace picks up quite a bit during the second phase.
Phase 2
As soon as Metyr Mother of Finger’s health drops below 50%, the second phase starts. The clear giveaway is that it will use its Phase 2 Explosion attack.
When that happens, run far away and run back just as quickly after the second explosion because the Mother of Fingers takes time to recover and you have to deal as much damage as possible before it starts going on a rampage again.
Metyr will take flight quite often during the second half of the battle. Each time it takes flight, it will use a different attack but each one has a different pattern. If it starts to spin, it is going to come crashing on top of you so you better roll in the opposite direction multiple times.
If it charges its tail bomb, you should be ready to dodge to avoid dying. Another tip is to heal when you can not when you have to. This will keep your HP bar topped up for critical situations. Other than that, the attacks are the same as the first phase but a tad bit more aggressive.
How to Cheese Metyr Mother of Finger
Metyr Mother of Fingers is one of the easier bosses in Elden Ring DLC since almost all of its attacks are well-telegraphed hence easier to dodge. Still, it might take a while to get the hang of things, and if you are looking to pretty much one-shot Metyr, here is what you need and how to do it.
Cheesing Metyr is somewhat based on your build. If you’re running a strength build, you might want to consider putting some points towards faith. If you are already a magic user, you don’t need to worry. Before getting down to the specifics, here are things you will need:
- Golden Vow
- Howl of Shabriri
- Terra Magica
- Comet Azur
- Lusat’s Glintstone Crown
- Talisman (any talisman that increases damage damage dealt by magic attacks)
- Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear
- Cerulean Hidden Tear
Once you have all the items, get inside the arena but don’t move forward just yet. Apply all of the enhancements; Golden Vow, Howl of Shabriri, and Terra Magica, and along with that, consume both of the mentioned flasks, Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear and Cerulean Hidden Tear. Finally, summon your mimic in case things don’t go as planned.
Once you are done with all of that, move forward to attract the attention of the boss and start the battle. You just need to avoid the first laser that shoots toward you, and after that, use Comet Azure.
With all of the enhancements and considering you land your shot perfectly, you should be able to deplete all of its health in a single attack.
Even if the attack doesn’t kill it, you should have taken away a massive chunk of its HP. Now, all that is left is to dodge its attack until you find another opportunity to use Comet Azure. The second should put the final nail in its coffin and end the battle.
