Uncut Spirit Gems are necessary to interact with the new Spirit system in Path of Exile 2. Much like other systems in this game, the Spirit mechanic goes hard and completely changes how your build works. If you aren’t using this system, then you are missing out on some next-level stuff for your build. Finding the Uncut Spirit Gems is a bit of a hassle, though.
In this guide, we will go over the Spirit system, what Uncut Spirit Gems do, and how to farm these gems.
Uncut Spirit Gems in Path of Exile 2
Unlike the Uncut Skill Gems, the Uncut Spirit Gems give the player a persistent skill buff by consuming the Spirit resource. They are used to give your character Aura buffs, Persistent buffs, and create cast on effects.
Uncut Spirit Gems have rarity levels, which will impact their overall effect. Higher level gems are acquired in the later Acts, the Cruelty difficulty, and the endgame. As you upgrade the Spirt Gems, the Spirit requirement will go down.
They act similarly to other uncut gems, where once you have them in your inventory, you must right-click on them and Engrave a Persistent Buff on them from a selection. Once that’s done, you have to slot the gem into one of your skills to reap the benefits.
How To Get Uncut Spirit Gems
Uncut Spirit Gems are one of the rarest drops in Path of Exile 2. You can get these gems early on in only a couple of ways. They are tied to quests, chests, and bosses, but the drop rate is extremely low. You can farm to increase your chances of finding one, but that depends on your luck.
There are three somewhat guaranteed methods of acquiring Uncut Spirit Gems in Path of Exile 2:
The first Uncut Spirit Gem can be found by defeating the final boss encounter, The King of the Mists in Freythorn, during the side quest ‘Ominous Altars’ in Act I. This is the first time you’ll unlock 30 Spirit and a guaranteed Uncut Spirt Gem drop.
You can renew this area or play it on higher difficulty to farm gems, but it’s not a necessary drop after the initial encounter; however, the drop rate is quite high, and it doesn’t hurt to try.
The next guaranteed drop is in Act II. You must look for the Treasure Chest Icon named Golden Tomb in The Lost City. Run through this location and gather the loot to find the Uncut Spirit Gem. You can return to this location, renew it, and farm it consistently, although the loot level might not match your current.
The final location for a guaranteed drop is in Act III. Visit The Azak Bog and defeat the Ignagduk, The Bog Witch. This boss will further boost your Spirit gauge and drop an Uncut Spirit Gem. Keep in mind that the gem is not a guaranteed drop, but this boss has the highest drop rate compared to other bosses. Keep coming back here, renew the location, and farm the spirit gem.
The most effective farming run we discovered is Keth in Act II. This location is ideal for farming all types of gems. Begin at the starting waypoint, circle the complete map, eliminate the regular enemies, defeat the spawning mini-bosses, and open all available chests.
With some luck, you can earn one or two Uncut Spirit Gems every other run. This may be the sole method to farm the “spirit gem.”
Do it once, renew the instance, and do it again. I have consistently picked up Uncut Spirit Gem using this method. It just takes a bit of effort, but the item is worth the trouble.
Other than these ways, there is a very slight chance of one dropping from Rare or Boss enemies. Make it a habit to play areas that are below your level so that you can glide through enemies and easily take on the boss.
Uncut Spirit Gems are an endgame-level item in Path of Exile 2, and that’s why they are harder to come by. As you progress, increase your level, reach more challenging Acts/missions, play on Cruelty difficulty, and face the end-game, the drop chances of spirit gems will only improve. You need to be extra patient if you are going for these gems, but the effects you’ll receive in return will completely transform your build.
