As you progress and level up in Fallout 4, you receive a Perk Point with each level to invest in any SPECIAL attribute or perk of your choosing. But what if you have invested in the wrong perk or you want to experiment with a different build? Is there a way in Fallout 4 to reset the perk points you have already invested?
Unfortunately, there is no official way to reset your perks in Fallout 4. You can use the Console Command menu on PC to sort of cheat and allocate the perks the way you want, there is also a MOD that you can use to get a Perk Reset Chem in the game to do this. As for consoles, sadly you guys have no alternatives and have to live with your choices.
Resetting Perks in Fallout 4
As mentioned above, there is no proper in-game method that allows you to reset perks in Fallout 4. However, if you are playing on a PC then you can opt for other shady methods to mess with your perk allotment. There are 2 ways you can do this on PC:
- Console Commands
- Mods

Resetting/Allocating Perks using Console Command
While playing on the PC version of Fallout 4, you can bring up the Command Console anytime by pressing the Tilde “~” key (on a regular keyboard it is usually the one on the left of the number 1 key in the top number row). Once you have entered the key, the Console will come up to enter anything you want. There are a bunch of cheats you can play around with but we will focus on perks here.
There are 2 commands that you can use for perks:
- player. setav (perk/attribute name) (perk rank/level): This will increase or decrease the perk level to the one that you have entered in the command. For example, if you want to increase the Strength perk to level 5 then you enter player.setav Strength 5. This command is primarily for changing the level of a specific perk that you have already unlocked, you cannot add or subtract levels from locked perks.
- player.addperk (form ID): Every perk has a form ID i.e. a unique numerical identifier. Any perk with a form ID can be added with this console command. For example, to add rank 1 of Iron Fist, you will type player.addperk 1dafe into the console. When adding higher ranks, e.g. rank 4 of Iron Fist, make sure to first add the 3 lower ranks.
To get the Form IDs of any of the perks you want to unlock, you can visit this site.

Resetting Perks using Mods
There is a mod available on the Nexusmods website which adds a Perk Reset Chem to the Chemistry Crafting Station (as seen in the picture above) that you can consume anytime and it will refund all perk points you have previously spent. You can get the mod by clicking the link below:
Perk RESET Chem – Refund Perks Special and Bobbleheads
The description from the mod’s developer states:
Adds a ‘Perk Reset’ Chem in the chemistry crafting station under drugs. The chem will reset all perks including SPECIAL and refund all perk points as well as SPECIAL and Bobblehead SPECIAL stats as perk points. If you are over 10 SPECIAL base this will put your cap back to 10 but still refund any bobblehead SPECIALS that have been picked up.

Give it 5 seconds to complete after taking it, I added a lot of wait functions because there are a LOT of perks.
Since there is no official way to reset perks in Fallout 4, the console players will have to start a new character. As for PC players, there are “cheats” in the form of Console Commands that can help you achieve this and if you are willing to tinker with your game files then a simple mod can make this resetting perks task rather easier.
