The Bed of Chaos is one of the most annoying bosses in Dark Souls Remastered, or any souls-like. It is not even a “fight” but rather a platforming puzzle that you need to solve. There are so many ways to approach this fight, and we’ll reveal all of them in this boss guide. There is no point in killing this boss honorably; you have to finish this fight as quickly as possible.
Fighting Bed Of Chaos in Dark Souls Remastered
The entrance to the arena is the only fun thing about Bed Of Chaos in Dark Souls Remastered. You’ll slide down from the fog gate and witness this ginormous sentient tree-like thing that is the boss.
This is not a “boss fight” in any sense of the term. Your initial task here is to destroy the glowing root nodes in each of the far ends of the room beside the boss. Once both are destroyed, you have to carefully approach the boss’s mouth and take out the Chaos Bug hiding behind. The fight can literally be over in three swings of the weapon.
The challenge arises in the Bed Of Chaos’s three phases. The initial phase is standard. He’ll use his slow wooden arms to hit you while you beeline toward one of the nodes. When you destroy the first root, a cutscene will trigger, and the boss will bring out another scythe-looking arm that’s on fire.
He’ll gain a few fire-based attacks, and the arena’s floor will collapse from certain spots as you approach them. You’ll have to keep an eye out and be quick on your feet to outmaneuver it as it falls or jump over the holes. The holes will kill you if you fall. Your goal is to reach the other root node.
Once you destroy the second node, another cutscene will trigger where the boss takes out another blazing arm. He’ll gain even more deadlier attacks at this point.
Your new objective is to reach the boss’s torso; however, as you approach it, the whole ground in front will collapse. There is a root beneath this hole that you must drop on, which will take you to the boss’s mouth.
Quickly break through the roots at the mouth and hit the Chaos Bug inside to end this annoyance once and for all.
The falling floor is more challenging than the boss’s attacks.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when going up against Bed Of Chaos in Dark Souls Remastered:
- He is entirely immune to pure fire damage.
- You can finish this fight with only bare fists since you only need to land a single hit on the boss’s weak spots.
- Bow and arrows can be used to snipe the root nodes on the side from relative safety (more on this later).
- Wearing fire-resistant armor will mitigate his plethora of fire attacks.
- Wearing light or no armor is advised to lower stamina consumption, increase speed, and boost stamina recovery. You need to run a lot in this fight, and light armor will be helpful.
- When facing the boss the first time, the insta-kill pits will indeed claim your life multiple times; thus, make sure to spend any Souls and not use any Humanity. The Ring of Sacrifice will protect your goods.
- Dying during this fight won’t reset the glowing roots. If you die after destroying a node and return to the boss, the fight will continue from the advanced phase. This can be used to cheese the boss.
Boss Strategy
Bed Of Chaos will claim your life multiple times while you are learning its tricks, so stay patient.
The most straightforward strategy is to immediately run to the node on the right side after sliding down, roll through the roots guarding the node, and destroy it. Chances are none of the boss’s attacks will hit at this point.
Now, turn around and wait for the boss’s next attack, then leave the node’s location. You should hug the wall on the left and advance. Don’t rush; keep an eye on the collapsing floor. You should be able to jump across these holes, stick to the wall, and progress to the next root node. Besides Eruption, none of the boss’s attacks will hit you if you are closer to the wall.
Destroy the next root node and use the same route as before to reach the outer-middle part of the arena, right in front of the boss. Now wait and watch out for the subsequent attacks, then move towards the boss’s mouth. Stop when you reach the last circle on the floor, for it will fall.
Position yourself to the right of this hole and fall on the root below. As soon as you land, start sprinting up and destroy the smaller roots to reach the Chaos Bug and hit it. This is mainly for melee builds.
For ranged builds, carry a bow and arrow and a good supply of arrows. Use the same outer wall route, but not enter the root node’s locations. Instead, fire arrows toward the node to destroy the breakable roots first, and soon, your arrow will hit the node and destroy it.
Repeat for the next node while sticking to the wall, and you’ll generally be safe from the falling floor. This method will be safer.
Moveset
Bed Of Chaos in Dark Souls Remastered has the following attacks and how you should react to them:

| Horizontal Swipes | When you are in the middle area of the arena, the boss will use his left arm to drag it across the arena and then drag his right arm in the opposite direction. | Time your roll toward the incoming swipes, and they won’t hit owing to the I-frames. How to Cheese Bed Of Chaos in Dark Souls Remastered?
There are multiple ways of cheesing Bed of Chaos. We will go over two extremely potent cheese strategies.
Firebomb Cheese
This cheese method requires a bow (no arrows) and only two firebombs (carry more, just in case).
As soon as you enter the boss’s room, run towards the boss and stand on the tile marked in the picture above. Don’t worry; you are safe on this spot.
From here, face the boss and manually aim your bow at the northeast side, towards the middle right section of the boss, with the roots sticking out (the exact position is marked in the picture). Zoom out and throw a firebomb. If you aim right, the bomb will land on the right side node and destroy it, and the phase change cutscene will trigger.
After the cutscene, quickly aim at the opposite side to the boss’s left (position marked) and let loose another firebomb. This will destroy the next node. After the last cutscene, start running forward, and you’ll walk past the collapsing floor in front of the boss’s torso.
Quickly enter it, roll through the roots, and punch the Chaos Bug, and you are done.
“Quit Game” Cheese
With this tactic, you’ll be exploiting the saved boss progression. Slide down into the arena, run to the first node, and destroy it. Once the phase transitions, go to the menus and Quit the game. Load out and then use the Continue option in the main menu to load back in.
When you return, you’ll spawn right in front of the boss’s fog gate. Enter the arena again, and you’ll notice the node is destroyed, and the Bed of Chaos is already in the second phase. This eliminates running from the destroyed node to the middle arena while the floor collapses.
You only have to target the next node. You have to be careful this time since half of the arena’s floor is yet to crumble. You can hug the wall and advance until you can shoot the node with a bow to make it even easier. Destroy the node, transition into phase three, and quickly Quit the game again.
Press Continue, enter the fog gate, and the boss will be in his final phase with both nodes gone. Now, it’s just a matter of moving forward and a little to the left (while keeping an eye out for any incoming attacks) and dropping on to the root, which will take you to the Chaos Bug and finish the job.
This method removes the tedium of maneuvering through the falling ground and quickly beat the boss.
The Bed of Chaos is no boss, but an infuriating gimmick that’ll hinder your Dark Souls Remastered enjoyment. It is better to use the cheap tactics we discussed earlier to take it out in a hurry and get back to actual fun. Hopefully, with our help, this boss won’t make your head chaotic.
