How To Get Exotics in Destiny 2

How To Get Exotics in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is a massive game with a huge player base. The reason it has soo many people in it is because of its nature to be very grindy but in a good way. There is always a gear type that everyone is looking for when they play Destiny 2, and Exotic items are it. Exotic items are the rarest type of item you can get because it has the best attributes and damage out of anything in the game.

The downside to an Exotic weapon or armor, you can only equip one at a current time. Exotic weapons are very good because all of them have a special ability that is built into it. I have an Exotic pistol that when I get a critical hit on an enemy, they explode and damage enemies around them. Exotics are honestly the best items in the game, so here are the many ways to get Exotic items.

Exotic Quests

These quests basically guarantee an Exotic weapon at the end but the only downside is that there are not many in the game. When you do start en Exotic quest, it takes a very long time because you are going for a very good weapon or armor piece. The most famous Exotic Quest would be to get Cayde-6’s gun the Ace of Spades. It took me almost a very long time to complete everything needed to get the weapon but in the end, it was totally worth my time.

Here are just some of the Exotic Quests you can complete:

  • Worldline Zero: Collect Lost Memory Fragments on Mars.
  • Polaris Lance: Finish the Warmind campaign.
  • Sleeper Simulant: Finish the Warmind campaign.
  • Whisper of the Worm: Complete “The Whisper” on IO
  • Rat King: Complete the Titan World Quest.
  • Sturm: Complete the Nessus World Quest.
  • MIDA Multi-tool: Complete the EDZ World Quest.
  • Legend of Acrius: Defeat Red Legion enemies I guess.
  • Ace of Spades: Complete the Forsaken campaign.
  • Malfeasance: Defeat an Ascendant Primeval during a Gambit match.
  • The Chaperone: Complete the Forsaken campaign.
  • Lord of Wolves: Complete Wanted Bounties
  • Wish Ender: Talk to Sjur Eido’s statue during the Shattered Throne.

Exotic Engrams

These are Engrams that guarantee an Exotic item but they are the rarest type of engram that you can get. There are many ways to get an Exotic Engram and here are all the ways: defeated enemies, planetary chests, region chests, High-Value Target chests, Public Event chests, Lost Sector chests, and Cayde’s loot stashes. Remember that it randomly drops from these locations but it is very rare to actually get one. I would stick to the other ways to get Exotic items because trying to get them from engrams would take forever.

Xur, Agent of the Nine

Xur can be found randomly on each planet but if you can find him and you have the Legendary Shards, you can get some good Exotic items. With 100 Legendary Shards, you can purchase almost anything that he is selling, and plus, everything he sells is of Exotic rarity so you can get some good stuff from him. He also sells Exotic ornaments that change the look of specific Exotic pieces. These are cool because you might not like how an Exotic looks so you can change it up a little bit.

Play the Campaigns

There are a total of 5 campaigns that you can play in Destiny 2, and all of them are relatively long. Exotics can be randomly found by just playing each of these stories and each of them has many more side missions to them for an extra chance for Exotic Engrams. Remember that the story missions can be replayed for extra Experience points and engrams. Here are all the campaigns in Destiny 2.

Red War Campaign – This is the main story of the game and it takes you as a Guardian through 17 story missions to try and defeat Ghaul and the Red Legion from destroying the Traveler. If Destiny 2 had this by itself, it would still be a great game.

Curse of Osiris Campaign – This takes you to Mercury to find an old Guardian who is trying to fight off the Vex in an unstable world. It has 8 story missions that you can play.

Warmind Campaign – This takes you to Mars and you fight off the Hive in a massive battle where a giant worm god is trying to take over the planet. It has a total of 5 story missions but it’s worth your time because of the replayability.

Forsaken Campaign – This takes you to the Tangled Shore and the Dreaming City to fight off the Scorned. In this campaign, you get all new weapon types and Exotics, and it definitely worth your time. It has a total of 11 story missions for you to play.

Shadowkeep Campaign – This takes you to the Moon to fight off what the characters call “Nightmares”, which are basically manifestations of the Guardian’s past. It adds a total of 7 new story missions for you to play.

Planetary Faction Rankups and Tower Vanguard Rankups

When you are playing missions and completing objectives on each planet, you will get a specific token and you will be able to collect and turn them in for that planet’s NPC. When you fill-up the NPC’s bar, you will receive an item that the NPC has in stock for free. there is a huge possibility for you to get an Exotic item for the specific season you are in. Also, Tower Vanguards will have the same type of thing except you have to get their specific tokens from different objectives and missions, so go to them to see what you have to do.

Heroic Public Events

On each planet, there are these special events called Public Events that come around every once and a while. If you complete a certain objective during that event, you will get to play a Heroic Public Event where a massive boss comes out and you must defeat them. There is a chest that spawns at the end and you might get an Exotic item as a reward.

Public Events are rated after completion based on the Guardians’ performance. If time runs out before the objective is met, the Guardians will receive a Bronze rating. If time runs out but the Guardians manage to almost complete the objective, the Guardians will receive a Silver rating. If the objective is completed before the timer runs out, the Guardians will receive a Gold rating.

Crucible and Strikes

Crucible is where you can go and fight other players in Team Deathmatch type gameplay. There are also many other game modes that you can play. Strikes are missions from the campaigns that are turned into basic missions for you to replay with a bunch of people. These are important because of all the new missions that you can complete to be rewarded with special items and even Exotic items.

Tess Everis’s Engrams

Once you get to the max level for your character, you will not stop getting Experience. As you get XP, you will eventually level up again, but this time, you will not go up a level. Instead, you will be given a special Engram depending on what Season you are in. These Engrams contain special items like Sparrows, Ships, and Ornaments. Every item you get from these will make you look really cool and give your character a special look.

It also gives you special skins that you can put onto your character to change up the colors of your armor, weapons, and vehicles. It is totally worth it when you have a full set of gear and it is all the same color. Exotics also liven up your character because of how cool they look. You can get Exotics from the Engrams.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are many ways to get Exotic items in Destiny 2. The best part is, you can basically play any part of the game and still be eligible to get an Exotic because of the random drop chance. If you have never played Destiny 2 before, go on Steam and download it now. It is free and totally worth getting into if you have the time.
