When facing the Fengs in Nine Sols, you’ll have to somewhat deal with two bosses at the same time. This boss fight is manageable initially, but as you whittle away their HP, it gets pretty out of control. We’ll discuss everything this pair of twins have up their sleeves and how you should counter them. Hopefully, with the help of this guide, this boss fight will be much more painless.

The Fengs in Nine Sols
The Fengs, Fuxi and Nuwa, are a duo of Sols Seal holders, Integrity and Selflessness (respectively), that you must gather as part of Yi’s primary objective in Nine Sols. This makes them a mandatory boss. They reign over the Empyrean District.
As you venture through the district, you’ll witness the horror these twins have inflicted upon their subjects. The populace has turned into these pink mutants that can’t be killed unless you acquire the Super Mutant Buster from defeating the twins.
The actual boss fight is against Fuxi only, indicated by the name on the boss’s health. The fight has two phases. In the first phase, you’ll face Fuxi alone. He uses his giant mutated claw and an instrument (Zhu) in his other hand to pulverize you with mighty strikes. This part is easy where you only have to deal with Fuxi’s attacks.
However, things get serious when Nuwa joins her brother in the second phase. She’ll only interfere with her spell attacks, but she doesn’t get her own health bar, nor are you supposed to attack her. You’ll continue to fight Fuxi in this phase while periodically dodging Nuwa’s attacks.
When you finally take out Fuxi, Nuwa will automatically die in the process, too.
The Fengs: Fuxi’s Attacks – Phase 1 Boss Strategy
You’ll begin the first phase by facing Fuxi one-on-one. He has a limited number of attacks that hit hard but are slow and easy to read. You better get used to his attacks cause this practice will come in handy in the later phase when you are dodging both the twin’s onslaught at the same time.
Some tips to consider:
- You’ll get plenty of opportunities to attack Fuxi. He is a lurking fool who stays grounded and doesn’t teleport around. Use every moment to stay near him and attack while watching for his next attack. Use both melee and talisman strikes when you get these free windows.
- The Full Control Talisman is a better fit for the first phase, at least, where you have plenty of room to manually control the explosion, taking away massive chunks of his HP in one single go. Water Flow Talisman is helpful in the second phase when you have small windows in between both of their attacks.
- Practice Unbounded Counter.
- This whole phase can be fought without needing to go airborne.
Here are all of Fuxi’s attacks and combos you need to watch out for:
| Attack | Description | Counter |
| Charging Claw Scoop | Fuxi rears his claw, then charges toward you while performing a claw scoop with a wide upward arc. He travels far with this attack and is used when you are farther from him. | You can dodge through it. It can be parried while standing or airborne. |
| Leaping Claw Slam | He goes airborne and tries to land on top of you with his claw. A Reversing Claw Swipe follows it. Another attack used when you are at a distance. | It can be parred or dodged to the other side. |
| 4-Hit Combo | This chain starts with him leaping and slamming his claw, then performing an overhead instrument slam followed by a poke straight ahead and ending with an overhead standing claw slam. | The whole chain can be parried with ease. After the initial slam, you can try to stand right under or behind him and continue attacking him since most of these attacks will miss you. |
| 3-Hit Slamming Combo | He performs an upward arcing claw scoop, then goes for an overhead weapon slam followed by an overhead claw slam. | The whole chain is parryable. After the initial hit, move behind him, and his following attacks won’t hit. Use this time to land free blows. |
| Reversing Claw Swipe | If you are standing behind him when he performs the standing claw slam, he will likely follow it with this attack, where he drags his claw on the ground while moving backward to catch you. | This comes out of nowhere, so be vigilant when you are busy attacking him. It can be parried or dashed in the opposite direction. |
| Charged Leaping Crimson Slam | He sticks his claw out and transforms it into a blade with black fire, then jumps up and slams it into the ground. If it hits the ground, it leaves a lingering patch of fire that dissipates over time. | The wind up to this attack is long, so once you see him transform the claw, charge the Unbounded Counter and release as he lands on you. If you do this right, you’ll cancel the fire patch and stun him for a short period, giving you ample time to put in some extra damage. Or, you can fire the Azure Bow as he transforms the claw, and it will stop him dead in his tracks. This counter tactic is best used in the second phase. |
| Random Zhu Slams | A random overhead weapon slam can sometimes follow all the attacks and combos. | Be vigilant, as this comes out when you least expect it. It is easily parried. |
The Fengs: Nuwa’s Attacks – Phase 2 Boss Strategy
The second phase begins when Fuxi’s first health bar is depleted. He keels over, and his pustules start to wriggle. Then Nuwa plays her flute, and he rises to fight again. Fuxi has all the same attacks and speed, but this time, Nuwa casts spells to aid his brother. You must keep your eyes peeled for attacks coming from two fronts. Nuwa can’t be hurt, so don’t bother.
Every time Nuwa plays her instrument, which can be heard, expect an attack. You must continue fighting Fuxa as before while dodging Nuwa’s spells. Here are all the spells you need to look out for:
| Attack | Description | Counter |
| Pink Bubbles | Usually, the first attack is phase 2. A pink hue will appear over where you stand, eventually conjuring a pink bubble that shocks you. She’ll summon multiple bubbles. They linger for some time and vanish. It is likely followed by a Fuxi’s Leaping Claw Slam and a Reversing Claw Swipe. | When you see the first pink hue, slowly move to the other side, stop, and attack Fuxi. Then, watch for the second hue to appear and walk away, then stop to attack and keep doing this until all bubbles have materialized. Quickly get ready to parry the Leaping Claw Slam. |
| Flying Needles | Nuwa calls forth two golden needles that fly toward you after some delay. | Jump and air parry both the needles and get ready to counter Fuxa’s attack. |
| Horizontal Snake Summon | A portal shatters open on one side over the ground, sending a giant pink snake traveling to the other side. After some delay, another portal opens on the opposite side, sending a snake to the other side. | Jump and dash to the opposite side of the snake’s path. Prepare to parry Fuxi’s Charging Claw Scoop and Leaping Claw Slam after each snake disappears. |
| Vertical Snake Chase | A portal opens right over your head and snakes will land vertically on your location. Wherever you move, the snakes will follow with six portals/snakes in total. | When the portal appears over your head, face the longest open direction and start running. If you face the side with the dead end, you might get cornered, and the rest of the snakes will fall on you. Keep running until the attack is over. |
| Vertical Alternate Space Snake Summon | Three portals will appear on top with spaces in between, and then snakes will drop vertically from these points. Afterward, another set of snake portals will open in the previous safe spaces in between. | Locate the safe space between the portals and stand there, then repeat for the following portals. You must be aware of Fuxi’s attacks, as he can shove you into the snakes if you are not careful. |
The fight against the Fengs is a breeze relatively compared to other bosses in Nine Sols. They lack the mechanical complexity and relentlessness of some of the other Sols holders. Things do get erratic when Nuwa joins the fray, but you only have to dodge her spells, and by then, you are accustomed to Fuxi’s basic attacks.
