Why is Your Map Blurry in Ark: Survival Evolved?

Why is Your Map Blurry in Ark: Survival Evolved?

Ark: Survival Evolved receives constant updates from Studio Wildcard. Some of these deliver refreshing changes while others can be as simple as a hotfix patch. However, adding new content to the game at such a rapid pace can introduce its own set of bugs and issues.

Ark does a good job of patching the discovered updates. This is mostly done based on the severity of the bug/issue. However, there are times when an issue remains so elusive that it ultimately gets lost in the wilderness.

In such niche cases, it is better to find a workaround by yourself than expecting Studio Wildcard to be your savior. The blurry map has been a cause of distress among many players. However, there are a few workarounds that can be implemented to resolve this.

Players face the blurry map issue when their in-game map textures fail to load properly. This can be fixed by messing with the graphic settings. Alternatively, there are certain methods that the player can implement to find a fix.

How to Fix the Blurry Map Issue in Ark: Survival Evolved

While you wait for the official fix to come through, you should try the following workaround in the meanwhile. You might simply be facing a low-resolution issue that can happen quite commonly in Ark. Therefore, it is better to try everything till you can diagnose the source of your issue. With that said, here is what to try:

Bump Your Graphics Settings Up

There are times when Ark refuses to load textures properly on the lower settings. Therefore, try to momentarily bump all the graphic settings in the game to see if it fixes the issue. If nothing changes, you might want to enable dynamic tessellation instead of high-quality materials. Use DirectX 11 to experience stable visuals.

Remove All Launch Options

If you are using -sm4 or -d3d10, it can cause your textures to look worse than they are. Therefore, keep them disabled unless your PC is strong enough to benefit from them.

Reset Active Total Conversion

You can try running Ark in Reset Active Total Conversion mode. This can fix the blurry map issue in most cases. However, the game might feel a bit choppy after some hours’ worth of time.

It is worth mentioning that this option is a more generic fix to the texture-based issues that are present in Ark: Survival Evolved. Therefore, it might not be as potent as the other workarounds.

Ultimately, Ark is not a perfect game and as a result, there are a lot of issues plaguing it. However, the community has come up with a few workarounds that can keep your game running. You can try the mentioned steps to fix the blurry map error. You may also tinker with the graphic settings if these fixes don’t work.

With that said, Ark has constantly been coming up with updates and feature improvements. Therefore, it is better to inform the game developers about such issues for timely resolution.
