Black Myth Wukong: The Drunken Boar Quest Guide

Black Myth Wukong: The Drunken Boar Quest Guide

Other quests in Black Myth Wukong only have nice rewards at the end, but the Drunken Boar quest will unveil an utterly secret area hidden in Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge. Not to mention, multiple goodies are waiting for you throughout this side mission. And trust me, the climax of this quest will leave your mouth open in awe.

This is one of the longer quests in the game, and leaving it would be a waste. So make sure you follow it to the end.

Step 1: Gather Important Items

You’ll need specific essential items at certain stages of the Drunken Boar quest. There are three items in total. We advise gathering them beforehand to eliminate unnecessarily running around when they are required. If you already have these items, then skip to the next step. These items are:

  • Jade Lotus
  • Arhat Gold Piece
  • Sobering Stone

A) Getting Jade Lotus

Jade Lotus Wukong

The most straightforward way to acquire a Jade Lotus is to buy one from the Store inside any Keeper’s Shrine. It will cost you 90 Will.

For those who like to collect their resources manually, this uncommon item can be found near bodies of water. We’ll point you to one for your convenience.

From Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge – Sandgate Village – Village Entrance Keeper’s Shrine, turn around and climb the steps opposite the shrine. Don’t go to the top of the stairs; instead, take the first ledge on the left.

Follow the ledge until you encounter a broken pillar on the right and a giant rock formation on the left with an enemy in the middle. Move past the enemy and stick to the dry path.

Drop down to the shallow lake on the right, keep moving forward, and stay close to the right edge of the lake.

After the dried-up tree on the right, you can pick the Jade Lotus from the plants growing near some stones.

B) Getting Arhat Gold Piece

Now, getting the Arhat Gold Piece is not as easy as it was with the previous object. You have to defeat a boss, First Prince of the Flowing Sands, to get it.

Valley of Despair Keeper's Shrine

Enter the cave to the right of Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge – Sandgate Village – Valley of Despair Keeper’s Shrine. Blow past the enemies in the cave and stay on the left side. As you approach the ledge overlooking the giant area below, a cutscene will trigger where the boss enters the arena and eats. After the intro, he will continue feasting until you drop down to initiate the boss fight.

First Prince of the Flowing Sands Black Myth Wukong Boss

The boss is sluggish in general. He has a ton of HP, but don’t be intimidated by him. His attacks are predictable, usually a combination of claw-swiping regular attacks, heavy leap slams, and tail swipes.

Commence the fight by immobilizing him, then transforming and laying it all in when he’s frozen. Once your initial attack silo is done, retreat and wait for the Immobilize spell to recharge while occasionally performing light attack combos in between recovery windows whenever you dodge his deliberate attacks. Immobilize him as you get the opportunity and put in all you have.

His large health pool just takes more time to chip away at, but other than that, he is a low- to mid-difficult boss. If you are finding him problematic, then check this video guide.

Taking out First Prince of the Flowing Sands will give you:

  • 1,014 Will
  • Stone Spirit
  • Yaoguai Core
  • Arhat Gold Piece

C) Getting Sobering Stone

Windrest Bridge Keeper's Shrine Black Myth Wukong

Start from Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge – Yellow Wind Formation – Windrest Bridge Keeper’s Shrine.

Go down to the left side of the shrine and go over the bridge ahead. After crossing the bridge, turn left.

From here, walk forward a bit and turn right to the stairs going up. Turn left immediately as you enter the next area.

Glowing jar

There is a hole in the wooden wall on the right side at the other end of this area. Inside is a glowing jar, which, when destroyed, will give you the Sobering Stone.

Step 2: Meeting the Drunken Boar

Rockrest Flat Keeper's Shrine.

Now it is time to meet Yellow-Robed Squire, AKA the Drunken Boar. You must fast-travel to Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge – Fright Cliff – Rockrest Flat Keeper’s Shrine.

Rock jutting out

Go to the open field on the left side of the shrine and head towards the rock jutting out in front. There will be a flimsy wooden barrier underneath the rock. Break it and run forth, and you will see the Drunken Boar in the middle of the open area, sitting atop some stones.

meeting Drunken Boar

Approach him and talk to him. He will start ranting about his intoxicated state and request you to bring him something to sober him up. Luckily, we came prepared to deal with his tipsiness.

Let him finish his dialogue, and since we have the Sobering Stone, the following prompt will say “Deliver.” Do just that, and the Drunken Boar will stand up, thanking you for remedying his drunkness. Keep talking to him, and he’ll let you know that he’s hungry now and that the Temple of Crouching Tiger has the answer to his cravings.

Don’t move away from this location until you exhausted all his dialogues. Only move on to the next step when he starts repeating himself. He won’t reposition to the following location until his dialogues run out.

Step 3: Find the Drunken Boar and Feed Him

Temple Entrance Keeper's Shrine

Proceed to Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge – Crouching Tiger Temple- Temple Entrance Keeper’s Shrine. Turn around from the shrine and move towards the stairs on the left leading to the temple.

Right hand nook

Scale the steps and go to the right-hand nook just before the temple entrance. You’ll instantly spot the Drunken Boar resting against the wall. Keep talking to him, and he’ll cry about how he couldn’t find any proper food in the temple and that he’s craving some delicious Jade Lotus.

Exhaust his dialogue, and the prompt will turn into “Deliver” again. Give him the Jade Lotus, and he will go on about how he gathered some leads to a mysterious Realm of Gold. Similarly, before moving on, keep interacting with him until he starts repeating so that he moves to the next location.

Step 4: Confronting the Drunken Boar

Confronting the Drunken Boar

Return to where we initially met Yellow-Robed Squire, i.e., beyond the Rockrest Flat Keeper’s Shrine. The Drunken Boar will be standing to the right-most edge of this field. With the Arhat Gold Piece in your inventory, the Drunken Boar will turn hostie as you close in on him. You have to fight him to advance the quest.

The boss has a few critical attacks to watch out for. There is one where he throws sand at you before swinging his claws.

When the sand comes your way, dodge to the sides and get behind him to land some hits. He also has a charge attack where he lowers his head before plowing you. That’s your cue to sidestep and avoid the hit.

He has an attack where he digs into the sand with one hand at a time and swipes upward, tossing sand as well. Since he digs slowly, you have time to dodge.

Lastly, he has multiple shoulder charges, where he leans toward one side, charges with his shoulder out, and then does it again. Pay attention to the shoulder he dips toward, and be ready to dodge to the side.

Snout Mask Drunken Boar

The Yellow-Robed Squire will drop:

  • 1,037 Will
  • Snout Mask: A headgear with a special effect that moderately boosts your Attack for a short time after using the gourd. However, your attack will gradually decrease if you do not use it for a while.

After the fight is over, the Drunken Boar will phase through a giant gate. Follow him, and it will trigger a lengthy cutscene that will teleport you to the secret location, the Kingdom of Sahali.

Step 5: Entering the Kingdom of Sahali

Sandgate Pass Keeper's Shrine

As you enter the new, go ahead, and you can unlock the Yellow Wind Ridge – Secret: Kingdom of Sahali – Sandgate Pass Keeper’s Shrine.

Tiger Vanguard - Black Myth Wukong boss

Venture onwards from the shrine, and you’ll come face to face with another boss, Tiger Vanguard. He is visually similar to his counterpart in Crouching Tiger Temple, but this guy has a completely different fighting style, using his sword to attack. Here is a video guide to the boss fight.

Beating this boss will reward you:

  • 1,015 Will
  • Blood of the Iron Bull
  • 2x Yarn
  • 2x Silk
  • Tiger Tally Curios: Boosts attack power when you successfully complete a Light Attack combo.
Sandgate Bound Keeper's Shrine

After the fight, he will wave the white flag and deem you worthy to meet his king. Exhaust his dialogue and move past the archway in front. As you move forward, keep your eyes open. A wisp of light will guide you to the next shrine beside a giant rock, Sandgate Bound Keeper’s Shrine.

figure at the end of the cliff kingdom of sahali wukong

Move to the right from the shrine, and you’ll see a giant figure, Yellow Wind Sage, at the edge of a protruding cliff with a massive trident standing beside a huge drum. Go and meet him.

Yellow Wind Sage

As you approach him, the ensuing cutscene will see the giant beat the drum to call forth a ginormous beetle boss, Fuban, in the dessert arena just beyond the cliff. Reach the bottom of the cliff and approach the boss to initiate the boss fight.

Step 6: Defeat Fuban

Fuban boss fight

Fuban is a gargantuan, slow-moving beetle with two phases to its fight. Many of its attacks stay the same, with a few evolving in the second phase.

While you’re at a distance, Fuban will dive underground and resurface to slam its body down on you. To avoid this, lock onto him to track where it will emerge and move out of the way. Another similar move sees him leaning to one side before slamming into the ground. Watch for the slight tilt in its body, then either run around it or dodge away.

Its next attack involves him pulling its claw back before slowly swiping at you—plenty of time to dodge. He has a faster swiping combo of two claw swipes followed by a slam, but in phase 1, it only uses one claw, so you can dodge to the side or get behind it to land hits.

Defeat Fuban Black Myth Wukong boss fight

In phase 2, the Yellow Wind Sage comes to your raid. This time his ground dive attack attempts to hit you as it dives back underground, repeating it multiple times. Use the same lock-on technique to see where it will resurface and dodge accordingly. The faster combo from before evolves into Fuban moving forward as it swipes. It won’t follow you, so you can easily run behind it and attack.

He has a new attack where he plunges his horn into the ground, sending out a 360-degree shockwave. Run away before the horn strikes the ground, and time your dodge to avoid the shockwave. This move results in Fuban’s horn getting stuck in the ground, giving you ample time to get in free hits while he struggles to free himself.

This boss fight will take everything you have, so remember to unlock the best skills in Wukong to give yourself an edge during the battle. For visual aid, here’s a video boss guide.

Wind Tamer

Beating Fuban will teleport you back to where you met the Drunken Boar with a few nifty rewards:

  1. Wind Tamer Vessel: It has the following effects:
    • Active Ability: Gain a massive Damage Reduction boost and immunity to Strong Winds
    • Passive Effect: Gain increased Damage Reduction
  2. Insect Armor Set: It can be crafted at any Keeper’s Shrine or the Blacksmith, where you can also upgrade the armor. It includes:
    • Monastic Insect Hat
    • Venomous Sting Insect Armor
    • Insect Spike Bracer
    • Insect Spike Gaiters
  3. Sky-Piercing Horn: A Mythical crafting material used to create Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff.

The quest starts with you helping the Drunken Boar snap out of his inebriation and ends with you taking on a mythological world-ending boss. Who would have seen that coming? Black Myth Wukong has a knack for stringing you along with breadcrumbs only to reward your curiosity with a hearty meal fit for a king.
