Fixes For Shader Crash in Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy Shader Crashes

Optimization issues, graphical bugs, artifacts, texture streaming problems, and just soft-locking, game-breaking glitches are just the tip of the iceberg in Hogwarts Legacy. But after a few leaps and bounds and fixing the shader crashing in Hogwarts Legacy, you might just get to enjoy the game for what it is.

So why does the game crash in the first place? This has something to do with the Shaders loading when the game initially launches. As Hogwarts Legacy loads shaders, the game fills up your GPU’s VRAM causing the game to crash.

So, without any further tomfoolery, let’s get right into a few fixes.

1. Delete ProgramData Contents

First and foremost, you’ll need to enable the view Hidden Folder Option found at the top of the screen in File Explorer.

  • Open up the File Explorer and enable Check Hidden Items in the View Tab.
  • Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy.
  • Delete all the contents of the Hogwarts Legacy folder.
  • This will reset most of your options.
  • Launch the game and it might just work smoothly.

2. Edit Engine.ini File

But if it’s still not running as expected and you run into shader crashes again. Try something else.

  • Navigate to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy.
  • Reach into Saves\Configs\WindowsNoEditor.
  • Locate the Engine.ini file and open it with Notepad.
  • Right at the bottom of the Notepad, paste these lines of text

[SystemSettings]

r.TextureStreaming=1

r.Streaming.PoolSize=3096

One thing to note here is that the PoolSize value depends on what you’re running under the hood of your PC. To be specific, we’re talking about the GPU.

If you’re running an RTX 3080, set the value to 3096. Similarly, for an RTX 3090, change the value to 9000. For an RTX 3060, the pool size value should be 400.

Conclusion

That’s all you can do to fix shader crashes in Hogwarts Legacy. The first fix is your best bet and the second one is your lifeline. But considering this fix works for everyone, chances are you’ll be playing the game without any worries after a thorough read.
