The Capra Demon is a hard boss for beginners in Dark Souls Remastered. The boss can be skipped, but if you want to upgrade your weapon past +5, then you need the key he drops, thus making him crucial to your meaningful progression.
Funnily, there are many ways to quickly take out this boss, including cheese, and we are here to spread that knowledge.
Fighting Capra Demon in Dark Souls Remastered
By the look of things, the fight against Capra Demon is heavily stacked against you in many aspects. The arena where you fight him is extremely narrow and fraught with obstacles to get stuck in while trying to dodge.
Additionally, the damn boss is accompanied by two Attack Dogs. These pups are fast and relentless in their attacks giving you very little chance to deal with the boss. Good thing they don’t have a ton of health otherwise the fight will be near impossible. Prioritize them over the boss to ensure your survival.
Not to mention, the boss is pretty furious too. He packs two huge machetes in each hand and wields them around like they are made of paper. He attacks fast and rarely gives you an opening to counterattack except for those big attacks. Good thing he doesn’t have any special attacks and just relies on physical damage from his weapon.
You need to be extra vigilant with your dodging, placement, arena, and the dogs making this fight quite hectic for new players.
However, there are incredibly cheesy ways of beating this boss too! More on this in later sections.
Here are some things to consider when facing the Capra Demon in Dark Souls Remastered:
- The boss is weak to Lightning damage. Buffing your weapon with Gold Pine Resin will help deal more damage. Throwing Firebombs works too.
- You need to quickly eliminate the Attack Dogs to stand a chance against the boss.
- You cannot parry any of his attacks.
- A sturdy shield will bounce most hits from the boss, stunning him for some time.
- Do not wear heavy armor that limits your rolls. This fight requires quick footwork.
- There is a stair leading up to a small platform in the back of the arena. Using this platform to your advantage can make this fight quite trivial.
Boss Strategy
So the Capra demon boss fight is decided usually in the first three or four seconds once you enter the door. You need to get around the boss and the dogs quickly or you’ll get trapped and they’ll just gangbang you to death. The goal is to get up the stairs and stand at the end of the platform above.
Once you get up the stairs, you have to take the dogs down as quickly as you can. Keep your shield up in between attacks if you can because the Capra demon tends to clip you through the dogs.
When the dogs are dead, the Capra Demon will try to come closer. He might fall down before reaching you or he might come extremely. In any case, we want him to drop down. If he doesn’t drop by himself, you drop down and he will follow.
Regardless of how he drops, we want him to be underneath so you can use a plunging attack (falling R1.RB) to deal a good chunk of damage. Use a plunge attack then quickly run back up the stairs.
Make sure to keep your shield up while traversing the stairs. Capra Demon’s attack can still surprisingly catch you even if you are elevated. Furthermore, getting past the boss to get to the stairs can be difficult. You need to either be shielding at all times or be good at dodging his attacks to blow past him.
Now you just want to repeat this strategy. You don’t have to be on top of the stairs to always do the plunge attack. You can also do it while climbing the stairs if the boss is within range. Yes, it’s a cheese-ish way of beating this boss but he asked for it.
Moveset
The Capra Demon in Dark Souls Remastered uses all these attacks and how you must react to each:
Attack | Description | Reaction |
---|---|---|
Swings (Combo) | He can either swing his machete once or twice, one after the other, in a row | Roll into the swing. Avoid blocking as it will drain significant stamina. |
Dual Slam | Brings his swords together and slams them in the ground in front | Dodge away from the attack or to the side and immediately attack. |
Leap Slam | Runs up to you and performs the same attack as Dual Slam. Usually executed when you are farther away | Roll away as you see him hurling towards you. |
Quick Jab | A quick swing from his left side weapon | Block if yo have enough stamina or roll into the jab |
Big Overhead Slam | Raises both his weapons and thrusts them down in front. Strongest attack | As soon as you see him wind up this attack move out of the range of this attack |
How to Cheese the Capra Demon in Dark Souls Remastered
There is an extremely stinky cheese for defeating the Capra Demon in Dark Souls Remastered without having to actually face him head-on. You don’t even need to enter the arena to stink this boss fight.
All you need is a bow and at least 20 Black Firebombs. You can use regular Firebombs too however you’ll need more of these. The Undead Merchant in Undead Burg sells these so stock up. Equip the bombs to your quick-use slot.
>
Now walk up to the archway right before the boss’s fog gate. Position yourself next to the left wall of the archway and equip the bow. Use the manual aiming button to aim at the castle wall in the background. The exact place where you have to aim can be seen in the picture above.
Once you have the aim down, start lobbing the Firebombs without moving. You can throw up to 5 to 8 firebombs after which you need to move back to the same location. Watch where your bombs are landing and adjust accordingly.
If done right, the bombs will land on the dogs and the boss over the opening above the fog gate. You can see the dog’s health going down through the wall.
Keep throwing the bombs, and soon, the “Victory Achieved” screen will pop up, and the Capra Demon will be no more.
There might be a chance that one of the dogs might survive this cheese so get ready to deal with it. He can charge out of the arena as the fog gate dissipates.
Rewards for Defeating Capra Demon
Defeating the Capra Demon in Dark Souls Remastered will net these rewards:
- 6,000 Souls

- 1x Homeward Bone

The Capra Demon fight in Dark Souls Remastered really sucks if you don’t know about the many ways you can exploit this freak. I surely didn’t know, and it was hard to learn them the hard way. Luckily for you, you won’t have to worry about that. Cheese away Chosen Undead!
