How to Beat Jiequan in Nine Sols

When you first meet Jiequan in Nine Sols, he has a very intimidating warrior-esque presence. He loves a good challenge, and the events leading up to his fight will show you that this mighty lion is no joke. There is a trick to dial down his aggressiveness, which we will reveal in this guide. We will also go over his arsenal of attacks and what tactics to use to hunt down this apex predator.

Jiequan in Nine Sols

Jiequan is the final boss of the Transmutation Zone and holds one of the Nine Sols, the Seal of Discipline, making him a mandatory boss. You have to face him twice. You’ll also receive a Greater Tao Fruit after beating him.

Yi initially meets Jiequan in the Factory (Great Hall), and they proceed to duke it out. However, you are destined to lose this fight, and Yi is taken away to be tortured by Jiequan. Yi eventually breaks out of his captivity and continues his adventure.

Note: Before you meet him again in his transmutation chamber arena, you can use a unique item found in the zone, the Gene eradicator, to weaken him for the fight. (More on this later)

You’ll eventually approach him in the Shengwu Hall of the Transmutation Zone while he is busy transmuting himself, and the real fight begins.

Jiequan is a grounded boss, so there are no airborne shenanigans that you need to keep up with. Nevertheless, he has a ton of weapons that he conjures out of nowhere to cut your life short. Even the arena has hazards on the sides that will get you if you are not quick on your feet.

We highly recommend you obtain and use the Gene eradicator to make this fight much more manageable; otherwise, Jiequan’s ferocity will prove challenging.

How To Get & Use The Gene Eradicator in Nine Sols

How To Get & Use The Gene Eradicator in Nine Sols

The Gene Eradicator is locked behind a sealed door in the Transmutation Zone that requires you to destroy two Parry Robots. We have marked the locations of both robots on the map above.

  1. The first one is in the top left corner of the Factory (Production Area). First, you must destroy the robot’s shield using a Charged Strike, then hack it and solve the D-pad puzzle. Solving the puzzle will reveal the location of the sealed gate.
  2. The second one is on top of a platform on the upper floor of the Factory (Production Area). Snipers guard this platform, so take them out. Also, this section has a timed hazard that you must consider when approaching the robot. Keep your HP topped up so you don’t get killed while solving the robot puzzle. The robot performs a crimson overhead hammer slam that you must deflect using the Unbounded Counter. Hack the robot to unlock the gate.

The gate’s location is marked with yellow on the map above. Proceed to the gate and enter it. There will be a Data node in the room and a console that you must hack. Doing so will activate the machine behind it, and it will drop a brown ball on the ground. Attack the ball and pick up the Gene Eradicator.

Jiequan transmutation crucible

Next, travel to Jiequan’s arena, Shengwu Hall, and there will be an injection port right next to Jiequan’s transmutation crucible. Interact with it and inject the Gene Eradicator to mess with his transmutation and weaken him.

This will unlock the Fight Dirty achievement and lower his overall HP by 25%. He will also randomly start coughing during the fight, giving you a free window to deal some damage.

Jiequan – Boss Strategy

Jiequan - Boss Strategy Nine Sols

Jiequan is fast for his size, but the first phase is relatively manageable. He cycles between a bunch of weapons and attack combos, so you should memorize these, as they will come in handy in the next phase since his attacks remain the same.

Some Tips:

  • The Qi Blast and Full Control Talisman explosions are best suited for this fight since you get recovery windows to control the spell manually.
  • Hedgehog Jade will inflict internal damage to the boss with each parry, meaning you’ll be dealing damage while defending yourself from Jiequan’s plethora of attacks.
  • Ricochet Jade will help deflect the boss’s projectile attacks back without being too precise with timing.
  • Qi Swipe Jade is always a good addition to accumulate more Qi charges for executing more powerful talisman explosions.

Here are all the moves you expect Jiquan to perform in Nine Sols and what you should be doing in each case:

AttackDescriptionCounter
Triple Spear ComboJiequan conjures a slim spear that he stabs forward, then performs a quick uppercut, ending with a grounded forward thrust
He can sometimes modify the final thrust into a Crimson Green Aura thrust.
The first two attacks have little space in between, so parry them quickly, then wait for him to twirl and perform the thrust and parry it, too. Remain on the ground for the entire chain.
For the Crimson version, if the last attack gets a dark charge, immediately jump and perform a Tai-Chi Kick on Jiequan, not the spear.
Immediately use the Talisman explosion on him after this combo.
Spear Charge He’ll either jump straight up or leap backward, conjure a giant spear in mid-air, and then slam it diagonally toward you, pushing forward from the impact. It is a very telegraphed attack. If you stand near the arena’s edge and parry the slam, he will have nowhere to slide forward, opening his backside for some easy damage.
Halberd Jumping SlamHe conjures a halberd, then leaps vertically and slams it onto you. It can be easily parried as he’s about to land. Quickly, Talisman dash into him after defending the strike.
Crimson Halberd Overhead StrikeJiequan conjures the halberd and assumes a stance, then charges his weapon with Crimson energy and unleashes a swinging overhead slam.
If this attack hits the ground, it will summon moving crimson fire pillars on each side that travel to the end of the arena. The pillars have a fire radius, too.
When you see him do the stance, quickly charge the Unbounded Counter and release it as the weapon’s about to hit you. This will stop the fire pillars from emerging and stun him for a short while, giving you ample time to attack and perform a Talisman explosion.
You can also Talisman dash towards him before the strike lands and jump dash back through the fire pillar.
Triple Dagger ThrowHe summons three floating daggers and fires them one after the other. These daggers will track you.
It is usually followed by the Healing Shield.
Timely parry the daggers, and they will hit him instead.
You can cancel this move with an Azure Bow shot.
Spike MinesHe leaps back and throws six spiked balls randomly on the floor. These balls will explode after a short delay.
He usually follows it up with a Triple Dagger Throw or Healing Shield.
You have the option to dash towards the boss or far from him. When he does this move, if you don’t see space behind him, it’ssafer to dash in the opposite direction; however, if you are cornered, dash toward him but avoid touching the mines.
Quickly use the Azure Bow after dodging the mines to cancel his next move.
Healing ShieldHe activates a bubble shield and starts drinking from his teapot to recover his lost HP.The shield can only be broken by either a Charged Strike or Azure Bow’s Cloud Piercer Arrow. Stop him ASAP.
Quick Sword StabHe conjures a sword and stabs it quickly in front. It comes out quickly but easily parried.

Try to stick close to the boss and use every opportunity to attack him. If you used the Gene Eradicator to weaken him, try to exploit the coughing windows. Keep the pressure up, and he’ll lose his first HP bar and initiate the next phase by going all Super Saiyan.

Jiequan Phase 2

Fret not; the second phase is similar to the first. He uses all of the same attacks, but his onslaught is more aggressive and faster. He won’t cough during this phase, regardless of whether you use the Gene Eradicator.

The only thing new is that he gains the ability to teleport and perform any of his regular attacks as he reappears. He can teleport up to three times before unleashing his next attack.

You should know his attacks by now, so everything will be familiar to you. You only have to match his newfound speed and watch/react swiftly when he starts teleporting. The fight will end soon, and this lion will go out like a wet cat.

Jiequan will be the first proper challenging boss you’ll face in Nine Sols. He is the trailer for the high-octane horrors that await you later in the game. Revel in this fight and practice using your whole arsenal to better adapt to the battles ahead.
