How To Beat The Flexile Sentry in Dark Souls 2

The Flexile Sentry is an optional boss in Dark Souls 2. You must ring the bell on the No-man’s Wharf to call in the ship to get this fight. You can find him in the brig of the said ship. Fighting Flexile Sentry in Dark Souls 2

The Flexile Sentry is a peculiar boss design in Dark Souls 2. It’s like FromSoftware really wanted to address the age-old strategy of sticking to the boss’s backside and spam attack. Making a conjoined boss that attacks from both sides ends up discouraging this kind of approach.

Flexile Sentry consists of two torsos sharing a pair of legs. The front side wields two scimitars which he flails around quite erratically, and the back side wields two spiked clubs which he likes to pummel you with using heavy slams.

The arena itself poses some threat during the fight. Water will slowly start pouring in after two minutes of initiating the fight and start filling up the space. Eventually, with enough water in the arena, your movement will start to bog down. You will move slowly making it harder to react to the boss’s attacks.

Depending on where you are and the boss’s choice, he will repeatedly switch between both sides for attacking. Keeping up with this irregular behavior does get a bit daunting however in the end there is nothing special about this fight.

The boss only has standard physical attacks and no other ace up his sleeve. You only have to memorize each sides’ attack patterns and a few dodges here and there would suffice.

Here are some tips and tricks to consider when facing Flexile Sentry in Darks Souls 2:

  • You can find this boss multiple times in the later stages of the game.
  • The boss is extremely weak to Fire damage.
  • You can summon two NPCs during this fight; Lucatiel of Mirrah and Bradley of the Old Guard.
  • In NG+, the boss will be accompanied by two Suspicious Shadows enemies.
  • Use the pillar in the arena to take cover for healing and/or limit the boss’s attacks.
  • His attacks can not be parried.

Boss Strategy

Boss Strategy Flexile Sentry

It is best to stay aggressive during the fight against Flexile Sentry in Dark Souls 2. Regardless of which side is attacking, the recovery in between the attacks is quite welcoming for some punishment. Especially utilize the long windows after the dual slam attacks.

Constantly circling the boss will ensure that his active side will miss you while you deal damage to the other side. You can quickly alternate between both sides since one side tends to recover after each attack.

Better to rely on dodging for this fight than tank the hits with the shield. The boss’s attacks eat up too much stamina and the constant followups will never let you capitalize on the blocking. Although putting up your shield while circling him will block any attack that might clip you accidentally. Dodging and staying to his sides is the right thing to do.

The club side of Flexile Sentry is much easier to deal with compared to the Scimtar side. Although the attacks from this side hit harder, they come out much slower. You can easily react to this side so make this guy your primary target.

Another good strategy is to keep the club side facing you at all times while you stay at a distance from him. This will bait out his leaping slam in most cases which you can ignore by simply walking backwards. This attack has a long recovery time so you can run in and deal some damage and run out. Repeat this tactic and he’ll go down.
