Scaduview Region, or Hinterland, is a hidden location in Elden Ring, part of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. While it does show up on the map, getting there isn’t technically going to be a picnic. There is more than meets the eye.
You have to unlock the Scaduview Region by using the “Oh Mother” emote, obtained in Bonny Village. Use the emote to move the statue located next to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate Site of Grace.
In this guide, we are going to be covering in detail how to obtain the emote, making your way through the Church District and Shadow Keep, along with everything else you need to unlock the northeast region, Scaduview in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to Get to Scaduview in Shadow of the Erdtree
Unlocking the northeastern region in Shadow of the Erdtree known as Scaduview isn’t as simple as resting at a site of grace or collecting map fragments. There are a few extra steps involved, and here is what you need to do.
Step 1: Unlocking the “Oh Mother” Emote
First and foremost, you are going to need the “Oh Mother” emote. You can get the emote by interacting with a headless statue located to the North of Bonny Village. This is the same village where you can also get the Night Armor.
The journey to the village will start in Moorth Ruins. You will likely visit this location either during Dryleaf Dane’s, Hornsent’s, or Leda’s questline. You’ll enter an underground pit through the location marked on the map.
Continue on the path, at the end of which will be a ladder. Climb up the ladder and you will find yourself in Bonny Village. Ride your Torrent towards theNorthh, cross the canyon, and on the other side will be a headless statue.
Interact with the statue and you will receive the “Oh Mother” emote.
Step 2: Reaching The Church District
Return to the Bonny Village Site of Grace and start your long journey towards the Church District. Start heading East from Site of Grace and continue along the path (marked on the map), until you reach the Church District Highroad Site of Grace.
From the site of grace, head northwest until you reach a tunnel that will lead you directly into the Shadow Keep Church District.
Step 3: Draining The Church District
When you get here, you will notice that the whole area is flooded. You cannot get inside the main building, where we are actually supposed to go, without draining the area first.
You will start at the end of the tunnel you entered through and parkour your way along the rooftops. You can follow the path we have marked for you. Be wary of the enemies you will find on the rooftops. They are annoying and deadly at the same time, especially the Fire Wizards.
When you reach the end of the path, you will see a giant hole in the roof.
Jump through and balance yourself on the beams below. Just walk forwards a little bit and you will see the floor is broken at one place. Jump through the space down to the lower level.
Take a right and then take the first left. Follow the path until you reach the mechanism to drain the whole Church District.
From here you fast travel back to the Rooftop because it will be easier that way.
Step 4: Unlocking Shadow Keep, Back Gate Site of Grace
Starting at the rooftop, follow the same path you followed until you reach the hole in the roof. Again, drop down onto the beam below and jump through the crack on the floor. Take a right, and this time, instead of taking the first left, take the second left.
Cross the path at the end of which will be a lift to take you to the upper floor.
The lift will take you to the Specimen Storehouse. Go left and grab the site of grace on the way. There should be a ladder if you walk just a little bit further. Take the ladder to the top. It is quite extensive so might take you a minute to get to the top.
At the top turn right and go up the stairs. At the top take a right next to the bookshelves.
There should be a hole in the wall on your right just a little small walk away.
Get to the outside and keep going straight on the wooden walkway until you get inside the building on the upper floor once again. There should be a small lift in front of you. Take the lift and go up.
Exit the lift and take a left. In the end, if you look across from yourself, there should be a ladder. Take the ladder to the upper section of the platforms.
Once you are up there, go straight and keep following the path. On your right should be a giant bat. Kill the bat and drop down onto the lower section of the platforms. Now right behind you should be a balcony area with a door leading outside.
Head out the door and take a right. You should see a small lift. Take the lift to the lower floor.
Once you are down there, keep going straight along the wooden path and at the end should be closed door on your right and another lift to your left. You have to take the lift and go back down to ground level.
At the bottom, walk ahead, and you should see Shadow Keep, Back Door Site of Grace. Activate the Site of Grace for future use. To the right should be a room with a giant statue. Don’t worry, you are almost there.
Step 5: Moving The Statue Using The Emote
At this point, the statue is the only thing standing between you and Scaduview Region a.k.a Hinterland.
Walk up to the statue and use the “Oh Mother” emote. The statue should move to the side, revealing a pathway leading outside to the Scaduview Region.
You’ll spot the Hinterland Site of Grace on your left. Make sure you activate and rest there so you don’t have to go through the whole ordeal the next time you want to visit.
This was the end of the journey to unlocking the northeastern region, Scaduview in Elden Ring.
What Can You Expect In the Scaduview Region?
You will likely visit the area during Finger Ruins questline. There are a couple of Tree Sentinels that you can slay and a Fallingstar Beast as well. This region is very important from the game’s lore perspective. But more on that some other day…
While the journey is quite long, and you might need to jump through more than a few hoops, it is all worth it in the end. The terrain of the region is quite different from the rest of the map. As a dedicated explorer, why should we leave any stone unturned, or should we say any statue?
