Marvel Rivals: Ultimate Magik Guide

Marvel Rivals: Ultimate Magik Guide

Magik is a Duelist hero in Marvel Rivals. She is the Brawler/Skirmisher who relishes her role as the frontline DPS. She has surprisingly great survivability, able to generate more HP the more confrontational she is. Her attack speed and movement are no slouch either. Furthermore, her abilities chain together like a charm. The Darkchylde gets a three out of five stars rating in terms of difficulty, meaning even though she thrives in the chaos of the battle, she is still quite squishy so you must figure how to be more cunning with her zippy deadly kit.

How To Play Magik In Marvel Rivals?

How To Play Magik In Marvel Rivals

This section presents crucial considerations you need to keep in mind if you want to dominate while playing as Magik in Marvel Rivals:

  • Magik thrives as an aggressive DPS. Her Bonus HP passive encourages her to play very in your face.
  • Her kit is crafted around getting the kill and getting out.
  • Not only is she a fantastic damage dealer, but she’s also pretty good at survivability and being a self-tank.
  • Unfortunately, Magik is the only hero in Marvel Rivals whose primary melee attack suffers from damage falloff. This means you need to stick very close to foes to deal maximum damage.
  • Her portal and dashing attack can be used to both engage and disengage from fights.
  • She is the bane of existence for enemy Strategists like Cloak and Dagger. She can easily dive in and eliminate squads of supports in mere instances.
  • Practice her combos a lot. Try chaining her abilities. When you understand how they link together, you’ll be zipping between targets like its nothing.

Pro Tips

Now that we know what Magik is capable of, let’s gloss over some super helpful tips for playing as her. Here are some cool tricks from top Magik players in Marvel Rivals that you won’t want to miss:

1) Valuable Soulsword Tips

Magik Soulsword

There are some nifty tricks for Magik’s sword and how it interacts with other characters. For starters, it can hit through multiple enemies at the same time, so if someone is hiding behind a tank, no big deal—you can slice through all of them.

Speaking of tanks, take Doctor Strange, for example. This sword can bypass his shield and also deal damage to it. This combined damage isn’t utilized enough, as many players tend to only focus on flanking with Magik. However, she can serve as a soft tank if your team only has one, making her an excellent choice against characters with strong shields.

What separates someone trying to play Magik from someone who wants to master the character is incorporating melee attacks between her Soulsword swings. Press the melee button right after the Soulsword swing connects to see the results. Not only does this give you a nice cancel to her long Soulsword animation, but it will also have a drastic difference to her DPS.

2) Magik Slash: Starter and Finisher

Magik Slash

The Magik Slash has great dual usage: you can deliver quick damage of 45 in a combo or charge it up as you enter the fight. Typically, you can use it to deal damage to someone trying to escape and as an opening to a combo. However, I find myself using it more often within the fight rather than just as a finishing move. Still, it’s definitely effective for securing a kill.

3) Stepping Discs and Follow-Up Attack

Stepping Discs Magik

The Stepping Discs ability is Magik’s main distraction, diversion, and damage setup. It is great for overall mobility and gives her an escape. Her portals are going to teleport her a short distance while also giving her invincibility and since it has two charges, you should be using it quite often, both as an engagement and retreating tool.

Once you go through the portal, you’ll have 3 seconds to decide which of the two follow-up abilities, Eldritch Whirl and Demon’s Rage, is best for the situation.

You’ll typically cling a bit more to Eldrtich Whirl than the other ability. When it’s activated, Magik will fling her sword around in a wide radius, clipping all within this circle. It’s particularly great when enemies are grouped up for a massive amount of burst damage and gain a respectable amount of Bonus HP to continue pushing forward.

Magik Eldritch Whirl

The best way to use it is after exiting the portal. Quickly press the Umbral Incursion button to dash toward the group of enemies and activate the Eldritch Whirl before the timer runs out. This will allow Magik to perform the 360-degree swing while dashing forward letting her strike multiple enemies along the path.

On the other hand, the Demon’s Rage ability is Magik’s most slept-on ability since you can’t really control their attacking and movement allowing enemies to walk away. However, these little freaks can dish out around 300 damage for their full duration, which is great. They things can cleave and hit multiple people at once. When the skirmishes get overcrowded, a well-placed demon inside the huddle can deal significant damage to the enemies involved. The demons are perfect for destroying Groot’s walls, Loki’s clones, and Punisher’s turret.

Demon's Rage

Your main aim for the demons should be placing them behind enemies while they’re pushing on the payload or behind their defense to put some pressure. You can also put them on top of the payload or objective or go up in the sky and aiming them down is a great way for them just to get a ton of damage on a huge amount of characters. It can also be great when someone like a Black Panther is chasing you, you can place the demon behind you to stop them in their tracks while you poof away.

4) How To Play As The Darkchild?

Magik Darkchild

Its easy to get greedy and pop it as soon as Magik’s ultimate is fully charged. This transformation gives everyone a power rush and they think they can dominate the field. However, you need to think ahead and figure out if enemies have anything that can counter your ultimate.

Luna Snow’s and Mantis’ ultimates basically render Magik’s ultimate useless with the amount of counter-healing they provide their team. If you see them pop their counter ultimate, then it’s best to leave, even if you transformed already, rather than risk getting destroyed.

In case the enemies have nothing, then it’s time to fully commit. Use all your abilities and cooldowns to get the most out of this lethal form. The best thing about Darkchild is that it resets all your cooldowns. This allows you to utilize all your abilities beforehand and quickly transform to keep the pressure up. The best time to use it is when your team is ready to push. You can transform and take the lead of the charge.

As for her abilities, the first thing you want to do is avoid the Demon’s Rage ability. Even though the demon is far better in this form, the Eldritch Whirl is even better and more reliable, plus it deals hefty damage in a huge radius. Since the transformation duration is short, you need to make the most of it and the Eldrtich Whirl is superior.

Darkchild Eldritch Whirl

Speaking of Eldritch Whirl, it goes up massively in overall damage. You should focus on portaling in and out and whirling, doing as much spread AOE damage as possible. This is not only going to build up your Bonus HP sheild to for self-sustain but also deal a ton of damage to take down squishies.

With this, you should combine her Umbral Incursion dashes and Magik Slash, both of which deals a huge amount of damage. Chain these three abilities has the potential of full team wipes if you know what you are doing. Ask your teammate Magneto of their shield or Mantis to give damage boost and the effectiveness of this combo goes through the roof.

Quick Combo for one-shotting 250 HP enemies: Darkchild+Stepping Discs+Eldritch Whirl+Magik Slash

DO NOT treat this as a Hulk transformation where you’ll get a boat load of HP to go crazy. Darkchild is a glass cannon during this form and if the enemy team zero in on you, you are as good as dead. Use this strategically, have a goal in mind, and take advantage of the chaos. The more frantic the fight, the better utility you’ll get out of Darkchild.

Magik is one of the best and somewhat easy DPS in Marvel Rivals. Her abilities, paired with that demonic transformation, can make quick work of your enemies, where she comes out laughing from inside the fray and gets ready to dive again. A good Magik can prove highly effective both in confronting the enemy frontline and butchering their backline.
