You don’t always have to switch equipment in Path of Exile 2 to wield the best in the game. There are many ways in the game to upgrade your current gear that you find to work best with your build. One of these ways is to use the Regal Orbs to give your gear some much-needed new effects.
In this guide, we’ll cover what Regal Orbs is used for and different neat ways to acquire Regal Orbs in Path of Exile 2.
Regal Orbs in Path of Exile 2

As you defeat enemies and uncover loot in POE 2, you will likely amass a bunch of Regal Orbs. Regal Orbs are used to upgrade Magic items into Rare Items while adding a modifier to the said item.
Magic items are identified by the blue text, which will transform into a Rare item as indicated by the yellow text using the Regal Orb. Doing so will not only change its rarity and slightly change its name but also keep its original modifiers while adding a new modifier to the upgraded item.
To apply this upgrade, you must have a Regal Orb and a Magic item in your inventory. Right-click on the Regal Orb to select it to apply to any item of your choosing, and then choose the Magic item in order to transform it.

As seen in the example above, the Magic crossbow had three modifiers. After we used the Regal Orb on it, it changed into a Rare item with an additional modifier, “+1.17% to Critical Hit Chance.” Rare items can have up to six modifiers (three suffixes and three prefixes).
Save Regal Orbs for Magic Items with great existing modifiers and maximize their potential using this orb. You can upgrade your favorite items this way and add new modifiers to keep them viable as you progress in Path of Exile 2.
How To Get Regal Orbs in Path of Exile 2?
There are mainly two ways of obtaining Regal Orbs in POE 2. One of them is random and requires farming, while the other is a more guaranteed way of finding them:
Farming Enemies

Similar to the Uncut Skill Gems, the most common way of finding Regal Orbs is by simply defeating enemies. Do keep in mind the drop rate of Regal Orbs is extremely low (0.207%), so going on farming runs and defeating tons of enemies will increase your chances of dropping one.
You can increase your chances by equipping gear with the “Increased Item Rarity” modifiers or investing skill points in passives that boost loot rarity and quantity. Make sure to wear such gear when going out on farming sprees.

Use the New Instance feature over high-density areas on the map. Ctrl+Click on a waypoint on the map will open up this menu, and you can select a New instance from here. By defeating more enemies, your chances of finding Regal Orbs will only broaden. The best place to do this is by replaying areas from older Acts where you can quickly destroy low-level mobs.
Elite or Rare enemies are more likely to drop Regal Orbs and Rare Items (more on this later), too. Prioritize farming runs of areas where you encountered more rare enemies and repeat them to boost your chances. We found the Trials are the best spot to face rare enemies. Chalice Challenges, like Trials of Sekhemas, will pit you against two to three rare enemies, further boosting your chances of Regal Orb drops.

You can also participate in events like Legion or Breach. These will spawn hordes of enemies for you to mow down and get lucky with a Regal Orb drop. Sometimes, there are Zones and Events with item rarity or quantity modifiers. Make sure to partake in them for that sweet, enhanced drop rate.
Disenchanting (Disassembling) Rare Items

Utilize this method to guarantee a steady supply of Regal Orbs. When you disenchant a Rare item, you will most certainly receive a Regal Shard. When you have gathered ten Regal Shards, the stack will transform into a Regal Orb.
There are notable NPCs in the town areas that provide this service:
- Una in Clearfell Encampment
- Zarka in The Ardura Caravan
- Servi in Ziggurat Encampment

Whenever you have useless Rare items in you, make it a habit to take them to one of these NPCs and select the Disenchant Items option. This will open a split window where you can place the Rare Item on the bottom section, i.e., “Your Offer.” When you put the item there, you’ll see the NPC’s offer in the upper section. Rare Items will always reward you with a Regal Shard, so ten Rare items will give you a Regal Orb.
Rare items with six modifiers will give you two Regal Shards, so keep an eye out for them.

The easiest and fastest boss you can farm for Rare items is in Clearfell in Act 1. Enter the area and travel north to face Beira of the Rotten Pack. She can drop Regal Shards and Regal Orbs, but you are more likely to find Rare items upon her defeat. Take the loot to any NPC and disassemble away!
Regal Orbs are one of the best ways to keep your equipment up to mark and face the challenges of Path of Exile 2 before you start finding legendary items. Use them wisely since there is a chance to get carried away and upgrade useless items only to neglect the right items that synergize with your build.
