Is Rocket League Worth It?

Is Rocket League Worth It?

When you think of a game that you have to drive around, you usually think of Need for Speed or Forza Horizon, where you have to complete races and do objectives. Rocket League has a very different spin on how you are to play its game versus all the other car games. Rocket League is considered more of a sports game than a racing game because of all the different things the game lets you do.

There is no free roam, but that is not the point of the game. There is soo much content packed into this little game, and the best part is that there are still thousands of people still playing the game currently. The developers are constantly adding new vehicles and content to the game and it is also used in esports.

What is it about?

Rocket League is a game that allows you to take control of a small vehicle and basically play a game of soccer. The rules versus normal soccer are very different because you are driving instead of running. Each match, you can choose whether you want to play a regular 1v1 match, 2v2 match, or even a 4v4 match. Once you are in the match, you will be put on a team. The counter will start and all the players will drive into the ball that is in the middle of the field.

The whole goal of the game is to use your skills to try and get the ball into the opposing team’s goal. It is not as easy as you would expect it to be because all cars get boosters and each of the vehicles can jump into the air. It takes a little practice to get used to the mechanics of the game, but once you understand, you will have a lot of fun playing the game.

What can you do?

Not only can you play the regular soccer mode, but there are also tons of other game modes to choose from that will change up the gameplay entirely. Don’t be afraid to try the other game modes because the game gives free access to them if you own the game. Also, each of the game modes has its own amount of players that can play at one time. So don’t be afraid that you can’t play with your friend because you can.

Here are the 9 different game modes in Rocket League besides the regular soccer mode

Beach Ball – Standard 2v2 Soccer rules, but the Rocket Ball has been replaced with a lighter Beach Ball that will curve in the air depending on the angle of the strike.

Dropshot – A game mode that introduces a hexagonal arena that has breakable floors. Instead of pushing the ball into your opponent’s goal, your objective is to destroy panels on the opposing team’s floor and score goals through those gaps. Along with our usual stats like Goals, Assists, and Saves, Dropshot introduces Damage as a statistic – the more damage you do, the more floor panels break, and the easier it is to score a goal.

Ghost Hunt – Use your car’s Proton Pack to ensnare the ball and carry it to the opposing team’s Containment Zone. A point is scored if the ball remains in the Containment Zone for two seconds. Score more than the opposing team before time runs out.

Hoops – A basketball game mode where you have to use your cars to hit the basketball into the opposing team’s basket. It is the only game mode to use the Dunk House Arena.

Rumble – Each player has a 10-second power-up timer that resets at each kickoff and after a power-up is consumed and its active timer is expired. Once the power-up timer hits 0, a random power-up becomes available to activate at the player’s discretion. An unused power-up does not expire and is available until used. This game mode also plays by standard Soccer rules

Snow Day – A game mode where the soccer ball is replaced by a hockey puck and the ground beneath you is very slippery just like regular hockey.

Spike Rush – A game mode where all players have spikes which automatically engage after kickoff, allowing them to stick the ball to their car by driving into it. The ball carrier cannot use or collect boosts, is easily demolished by opposing players, and can manually disengage their car’s spikes to release the ball. Score by getting the ball into your opponent’s goal by any means.

Training – Training is an offline game mode that is designed to help players practice and master a few of the most fundamental skills in the game. The training scenarios are essentially all about making contact with the ball but in different starting points and with different targets.

Tournaments – A game mode that allows for a player to challenge other offline teams to soccer battles. It has a full bracket and allows you to change the difficulty of the bots.

How many cars can you choose from?

20190926140238 1

There are a total of 42 cars you can choose from but unfortunately, only 10 of them are free. There are also 3 console exclusive cars that can be unlocked. All cars can be pimped out with different colors and apparel like hats and antennas. The wheels can also be changed to give your car the ultimate look. I mean who doesn’t want their car to look the best when going into a match, right?

The DLC cars look amazing and if you see one you really like, I would buy that one. They are not expensive at all and you can find a pack of cars for cheaper if you are into that as well. Just remember that every dollar you spend on a game, you should at least get one hour of playtime for that dollar.

How many people can play?

20190926141138 1

It just matters what game mode you are specifically playing. The main soccer game mode allows for teams of 1, 2, or 4 players, and the more people there are, the more chaotic the match seems to get. You are constantly hitting other players but that is just the fun of it. Certain modes like basketball only allow 2v2 because the arena it is played in is very small.

Also, split-screen multiplayer is on every platform and there is also cross-platform play so a PC player can play with an Xbox One player if you really wanted to. I think cross-platform makes a game a whole lot better just because it does not give any limitations to the player base of the specific game it is in.

Is it a hard game?

20190926140525 1

Yes and no. It just depends on how much time you want to spend learning the mechanics of the game. Some of the game modes can be challenging, but if you know the basics of how to play, it won’t be hard for you in the long run. Don’t take my word for it though. Go try the game yourself and see if it is hard for you because everyone has their own opinions about everything.

How much content is in it?

20190926140630 1

There is just soo much content packed into a small game like this. When looking at the time people have spent in it, there is really no max amount of time you can spend in this title because of everything in it. I have seen people with 10 hours in the game all the way up to 3,000 hours. It just depends on how much time you want to spend playing it. Also, there is a very good variety of modes to choose from if you get bored of one.

Is it worth buying?

20190926141153 1

In my opinion, it is definitely worth a buy because of everything stung onto it. Not only do you get to play soccer with a car, but you also get to boost around an arena as well. You can also get the game for cheap too because the base game costs around $20 US Dollars. The Ultimate Edition comes with more cars and unlocks but obviously is more expensive. I mean just look at all the game modes it has, it is like playing an actual good sports game that has multiple sports built into it as well!

Conclusion

In conclusion, Rocket League is a great game that delivers to you your racing game needs and your sports needs all at once. It gives you a different experience like no other game like it. To everyone who wants to try it, I would highly recommend them to just because of how fun the game is. Also, the vehicles in the game are very unique and add some cool customization items to the table. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to play.
