How Long is Black Myth Wukong?

Due to Game Science’s impressive crafting, Black Myth Wukong is highlighted at the top of every gamer’s feed. With more and more players looking into this game and getting excited by what they see, a question looms over their heads: “Is Black Myth Wukong long enough to justify its $60 price tag?”.

The Main Story alone, spread over 6 Chapters, will take around 30 hours to complete.

Most players expect a lot of playtime when they invest this kind of money in a game, partly due to recent massive titles like Elden Ring. Let’s find out if Wukong’s duration is worth the price it is asking for.

Black Myth Wukong Game Length

Black Myth Wukong's Duration

Before we tackle the question at hand, let it be known that Black Myth Wukong is not an expansive RPG like Witcher 3 or Elden Ring. It is a classic character action-adventure game with light RPG elements, more in line with 2018’s God of War.

Don’t enter this game expecting a gigantic open world with tons of freedom. This is a linear experience with a tight narrative, and those tend to be more streamlined.

I ended the starting chapter 2 in 5 hours, and the second chapter took 9 hours. Depending on how you play, each chapter’s playtime will only get more significant than the previous one.

Considering how difficult the game is and the sheer number of bosses around every corner, your mileage may vary depending on your skill level and learning potential.

Each new area is divided into chapters:

  • Chapter 1: Black Wind Mountain
  • Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge
  • Chapter 3: The New West
  • Chapter 4: The Webbed Hollow
  • Chapter 5: Flaming Mountains
  • Chapter 6: Mount Huaguo
Black Myth Wukong Side Activity

Speaking of how you play, I am a completionist who needs to check all the boxes in the game, and trust me, there are a lot of enticing side activities in Black Myth Wukong. These include:

  • Completing Side Quests. There are 18 side quests of varying lengths and objectives in Wukong.
  • Unlocking Secret Areas. There are hidden areas to uncover within each chapter, such as the one that opens up after ringing all the bells in the first chapter.
  • Gathering All Weapons and Armor.
  • Compiling all journal entries by visiting all Yaoguai enemy locations.
  • Upgrading equipment.
  • Beating optional bosses.
  • Collecting all Spirits or Transformation.
  • Unlocking all Achievements and Trophies.

There is so much more than the things mentioned above for a dedicated Destined One to do. Luckily, you can fast-travel between the Keeper Shrines and complete most of these activities anytime. Some quests and activities are missable, so make sure to look into them, or else you will have to complete them in NG+.

If you are like me and the Trophies pop-up gives you a rush, combining all these side activities, the whopping 91 bosses in the game, and so much more, you are looking at a playtime upwards of 60 to 70 hours. That is an unprecedented and impressive number for a linear action game.

Not to mention, there is a whole new Secret Ending to witness. It is only accessible in new game+ for which you have to do another playthrough of Wukong right after your previous one ends. That means you are looking at double the playtime if things like this tickle your fancy.

The playtime-to-price debate is subjective. In my books, a game with a solid 15-hour campaign deserves $60 compared to the same amount for the 200 hours I spent on Elden Ring. For others, it might not be the same. Black Myth Wukong is brimming with content and things to do, so it certainly earns its price tag.
