Rellana Twin Moon Knight is one of the earliest bosses you will face in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. She is the younger sister of Rennala Queen of the Full Moon. She wields two light great swords that she puts to very good use.
Rellana will put you through a meat grinder because of her fast attack combos, which she can execute at all ranges. That is why we have put together this detailed boss guide to help you swiftly deal with her.
Fighting Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
Taking on Rellana without learning about her will make the battle twice as hard. Though she is an early-game boss, she will run circles around you if you aren’t prepared properly. That is why here is everything you should know before the main event.
Moveset
Rellana will use the following attacks during the battle:
- Blade Dance: This is her most used sword combo. It will start with a side jump followed by a spinning slash. She will then end it with a direct stab. The combo is usually followed by another series of attacks.
- Counter: Roll towards her at the same moment she lunges towards you. You will have to roll multiple times to dodge every single attack.
- Glintblade Phalanx: Rellana will summon three glint blades either above her head or near her waistline. These are like homing missiles that will track you around until finally landing on the ground if you do end up avoiding them. She will use this attack during both phases, though it will be much stronger, and the number of blades will increase as you progress further into the battle. Another thing is that she will summon the blades and simultaneously attack you.
- Counter: If the blades are coming from above, roll to either side moments before they are about to hit you. You have to time your roll perfectly. If the blades are coming from a lower level, the best way to avoid them is to roll in their direction.
- Giant Carian Greatsword: Rellana will charge one of her swords and turn it into a giant magical sword. She will raise it into the air, then slam it down straight, following it up with a side swipe. The range of this attack is bonkers so you better watch out.
- Counter: The straight-down slam can be avoided by rolling to either side but the side swipe can be avoided if you run far away out of the range. Rellana is incapacitated for a few moments so make sure to land a heavy attack during this window.
- Heavy Attack: Usually Rellana follows a combo/flurry of sword attacks with a heavy attack. You can predict the attack if you see her pulling her sword all the way to the back.
- Counter: Roll to either side to avoid the attack. You can also roll towards her to avoid it.
- Magic Arc: Rellana will bend a little while holding one of her swords behind her. She then charges a sword with fire magic performing a slash that emits a giant arc of fire.
- Counter: Either move really far back or roll forward only a moment before the arc is about to hit you.
- Sleight of Sword – Flame: The boss will charge her sword with fire magic and then quickly spin in a circle to create fire tornados that act as an AoE attack. She will spawn multiple large and small tornados over a wide area.
- Counter: The moment you see her charge her sword with fire, roll back multiple times to get out of the AoE.
- Sleight of Sword – Magic: Rellana will charge the other sword with magic and perform a series of slashes and swipes, ending the combo with a heavy attack that creates an arc of magic similar to the fire arc but this time with magic.
- Counter: To avoid her attacks, you will constantly have to roll and dodge. You can block her attacks and break her stance with a shield but it is a high-risk move that can kill you as well. It is best to keep avoiding her throughout this deadly combo.
- Moon and Fire: When her health drops below 60%, she will imbue one sword with glintstone magic and the other with Messemer’s Flame then continuously use either Sleight of Sword – Magic or Sleight of Sword – Magic.
- Counter: You can counter this combo the same way you would counter both of these attacks if they were used separately though you can land a couple of heavy attacks during the time she charges her swords.
- Twin Moon: When Rellana is close to dying, she will rise up in the air summon two moons, and smash them into the ground creating a giant shockwave that will kick you up in the air leaving you vulnerable to Rellana’s sword combos.
- Counter: You can run really far away, almost to the end of the arena or you can jump exactly at the same time the shockwave comes. That will save you from getting hit though timing the jump might prove to be a bit difficult.
Weakness
Rellana Twin Moon Knight is especially weak against Lightning and Scarlet Rot.
If you can bring any weapon to inflict these damages then you will have a much easier time taking her on. For Lightning, you can use Dragon Greatclaw. For Scarlet Rot, you can use either Ekzyes’s Decay, Rotten Breath, or Pest Threads.
Strategy
Now you know about every attack that might come your way, how to counter it, and what is Rellana weak against. We have put together all of the knowledge and here is the best strategy to take her down.
Phase 1
As soon you enter the arena, Rellana will immediately lunge towards you and start with a multi-phased sword combo that can sometimes last a while. Make sure to immediately be ready to dodge any number of attacks.
Before you pass through the fog gate, summon at least one or two companions to help you throughout the battle. It will however bump up Rellana’s HP but doing so will give you much more breathing room to plan and execute your attacks.
If you are particularly a magic user, it is best to find some other alternatives because she is immune to magic attacks. It might take you a few tries to notice but you will see that after every long combo, there is a tiny window where Rellana stops.
That’s when you need to strike. There won’t be a lot of time but you can land a few decent hits if you time them perfectly. The Twin Moon Knight always attacks towards her front so if you do get a chance, get behind her and deal some damage.
She will use most of her magic attacks when you are at a distance from her. It is a big plus if your weapon can do Lightning attacks because that’s the quickest way to wear her down.
Stay at a medium to close range to utilize the time between her combos to attack. If you are too far back, you will miss the opportunity during the time you are running towards her. Once you bring her HP down to 50%, that’s when things kick up a notch.
Phase 2
Once Rellana Twin Moon Knight has half of her health bar depleted, she will charge both of her swords, one with fire and one with magic. Now every combo you saw before will include either fire or magic damage.
The majority of her attacks will remain the same but the intensity and frequency will shoot up. The number of swords she summons for ranged attacks will increase from 3 to 6. The giant carian sword attack will also come more often now.
She will also start using Sleight of Sword – Fire and Magic, which is a fire tornado and a wave of magic. If you haven’t already summoned a Spirit, this is the best time to do so. It will take aggro off you and you’ll be able to do longer chains of attacks.
The deadliest of her attacks comes when her HP drops below 20%. She will float in the air, summon two moons, and then proceeds to slam them on the ground one after another.
After the two moons, she will also slam herself on the ground generating the most powerful shockwave of all. Either run to the back of the arena or practice jumping at the right moment to avoid getting shocked.
Aside from that, the rest of the strategy remains the same as the first phase. Stay close to her and attack at every opportunity you get. Might take a long time and more than just a few tries but you will eventually take her down.

How to Cheese Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
If you don’t want to go through the trouble of fighting Rellana and just want to get it over with there is an easy way to take her down as well. You will need the Flame of the Fell God incantation.
Walk up to the fog gate. Walk as close to it as possible but dont pass through it just yet. Position yourself right at the center. Once your character is right up against the fog gate, use the Flame of the Fell God Incantation.
Basically, your character won’t go through the fog gate but your hand will. The spell will be cast and it will directly hit Rellana, Twin Moon Knight. There will be no HP bar showing, nor will she fight back.
If you listen closely, you will hear her taking damage. If you can’t, then you need to adjust your position.
Continue to attack. It might take a while but then she will go down. When she is defeated, the fog gate will disappear and you will receive the rewards.
This sums up everything about how you can take down Rellana Twin Moon Knight in Elden Ring DLC. It might still take a few tries but you will only get better with each one. Keep visiting GV for more on Elden Ring.
