Marvel Rivals: Ultimate Hulk Guide

Hulk is a Vanguard hero in Marvel Rivals. He specializes as an Aggro Grabbing Dive Tank that can quickly jump in and out of the enemy ranks to cause incredible disruption, putting the enemy team in disarray. He has excellent mobility, potent damage, and varied playstyles that can be a nuisance of the playing field. The Jade Giant gets four out of five stars in terms of difficulty, meaning it is hard to wrap your head around his transforming phases, but once you have it down to a T, the overall playstyle is relatively straightforward and devastating.

How To Play Hulk In Marvel Rivals

How To Play Hulk In Marvel Rivals

This part covers the key points to remember when you’re playing as Hulk in Marvel Rival:

  • You should spend most of your time in Hero Hulk form to remain highly effective in the match. Bruce Banner has the lowest HP out of all the heroes in Marvel Rivals, thus putting him at an extreme disadvantage in this form.
  • If you revert to Bruce Banner, use his Gamma Ray Gun and Gamma Grenade to accumulate ultimate energy faster and transform back to Hulk ASAP!
  • You’ll need a group of allies around you to charge up your ultimate faster when using the Indestructible Guard ability.
  • Hulk’s hitbox is considerably large, especially in Monster Hulk form, which makes him an easy target for ranged enemies.
  • He effectively has two health bars, giving him a last-ditch moment to get out of trouble when he transforms into Bruce Banner.
  • He is a frontline tank through and through that thrives at the melee range. Couple that with his amazing mobility skills, which means you can quickly close in gaps and keep up the pressure.
  • He starts off the match with his ultimate, Puny Banner, fully charged which allows him to take the Hulk form from the get-go. Time the transformation right to get the most out of this free ultimate.
  • Despite him being mostly a melee Vanguard, he does have two projectile attacks.
  • Radioactive Lockdown can prevent enemies from capturing an objective.
  • He is perfect for causing disruptions in the enemy team by jumping into their huddles and unleashing mayhem.
  • Increasing mouse sensitivity might come in handy for quickly punching opponents left and right or for rapidly jumping to and from engagements.
  • You should treat Hulk less as a Vanguard and more as a DPS. He won’t be as effective at soaking up damage or advancing the frontline, but rather at disrupting mid-skirmishes and diving behind enemy lines.

Pro Tips

Now that we know what the Hulk and his forms are capable of, let’s dive into some tips and tricks to really maximize his anger issues. Here are some pro-level strategies taken from various top-ranking Hulk players in Marvel Rivals:

1) Primary Combo

Hulk Primary Combo

Hulk’s fists are his bread and butter; however, instead of just standing around and punching, you need to mix in his other skills for the best outcomes. The first thing to note is that all of his abilities cancel his Heavy Blow primary attacks so you shouldn’t worry about timing when combining moves, making his combos extremely fluid.

The ideal combo would go something like this; Incredible Leap onto an enemy, right before you land perform a Heavy Blow followed by a Gamma Burst clap, then end with a string of Heavy Blows. You can even fire the Gamma Burst mid-air while jumping towards the target.

This will be your most reliable attack pattern that allows you to reposition immediately without being bothered by cooldowns for your damage output.

2) Cancelling With Radioactive Lockdown

Radioactive Lockdown Hulk

Radioactive Lockdown is arguably the most misused ability by most players. It shouldn’t be used willy-nilly. It will trap enemies only to be attacked by you, and if you freeze someone being pressured by your ally, then you are taking away their kill. Not to mention its hefty cooldown time demands that you use it precisely.

There are many ways to use this power correctly, like:

  • Use it during a combo attack where your opponent is trying to escape either yourself or your team.
  • You can disrupt many key ultimates with this ability. You can completely neutralize Star-Lord’s ultimate or other more time-based ultimates, like Magik’s, can be slowed down and lower their effectiveness.
  • It can be used to take out annoying DPS heroes, like the Punisher, or stop a shielded hero like Doctor Strange from protecting their team. Immobilize these key targets and gun them down quickly.
  • When diving backline healers, you can use it to trap the one with the better healing powers, like Luna Snow, and put down the other healer. Doing so will stop the better healer from keeping the other healer alive.

3) Bubble Up!

Indestructible Guard Hulk

The Indestructible Guard is a very versatile tool at Hulk’s disposal. It is great at accumulating ultimate charge for him, and it protects your teammates in sticky situations. Nonetheless, it can be used both offensively and defensively.

A very common offensive way to use the ability is when leaping into a fight. Deal as much damage as possible and when the bubble breaks, jump out.

The defensive way is to help your allies survive a barrage of enemies’ abilities, especially some crowd-control enemy ultimate. It is great at fully absorbing a full hit of an ultimate, no matter the damage. Iron Man, Groot, Jeff the Land Shark, and Cloak and Dagger’s ultimate can be entirely negated when you time this ability right.

4) Hopping Hulk

Incredible Leap Hulk

What separates a great Hulk from a master Hulk is going to be his mobility. The Incredible Leap has no cooldown and is somewhat wonky to use. To negate that, it is a good practice to almost always be holding down the jump button even in the middle of the fight.

Doing so can allow you to jump into a fight immediately, wreak havoc, and jump out. By holding the jump button, you will always have access to the maximum jump speed and distance, which is a whopping 20m when fully charged, letting you weave in and out of battle at a moment’s notice.

Key Tip: Practice holding the button just above the red bar that appears when charging the leap and you can quickly jump a huge distance.

Leap Charge meter

You can even use this to annoy flying heroes like Iron Man and Storm and create a no-fly zone by jumping between walls. Furthermore, diving enemy backlines, like healers and snipers, should be a Hulk’s secondary role, and this massive jump will make this incredibly easy to pull off.

In addition, the wall clinging ability can be used to get a good vantage point on enemies and dive them when they least expect it. Another thing to remember is that most players will assume Hulk will land after a jump and will be prepared to gun you down. If you instead cling to a wall, you are likely to disorient them, throwing their aim off and giving you an element of surprise from this unorthodox wall angle.

You can jump onto some geometry above an entrance where enemies are likely to enter and startle them when they least expect it.

5) Channeling Your Anger

Hulk Smash! ultimate

The transformation itself from Hulk Smash! ultimate can be used to your advantage. Since you are invincible during this period, you can pop it off at the right time and avoid heaps of damage coming your way.

Also, you can save the ultimate as Hero Hulk and continue to seek out fights without backing off. Once your health falls below critical, activate the ultimate, and you’ll gain a fresh 1400 HP, allowing you to continue the chaos.

Of course, in the Monster Hulk form, you want to be as aggressive as possible to capitalize on the short duration. The loss of Indestructible Guard in this state is offset by the massive health pool and quick cooldowns of his other abilities, not to mention the damage boost.

6) Get Familiar With Monster Hulk

Monster Hulk attack

Hulk’s primary attack will deal 70 damage in Monster Hulk form and knockback enemies. This launch can be a little tricky to manage when you’re trying to pull off a combo. You can counter this by learning to juggle. Punch the enemy and leap towards them as they fly away and land another punch or Gamma Blast while airborne.

You can largely ignore the Radioactive Lockdown even though the cooldown is much shorter. This is because you should spend more time being offensive. Use it only for any enemy trying to escape, but for the most part, you want to be punching and clapping.

Speaking of clapping, the Gamma Burst should get your attention. In this form, this ability has virtually no cooldown (only 1 second) and you’re dealing 125 damage per clap. This can easily melt supports and Duelists, like Black Panther. Use the same Leap+Heavy Blow+Gamma Burst+Heavy Blow combo as before and most squishes can be easily dealt with.

The World Breaker ultimate takes its sweet time of 5 seconds to pull off, and with a total of 12 seconds in this form, you are wasting that time in dealing with a single target when you should be zipping between multiple targets. To get the most out of it, use the ultimate right before the timer is about to run out. This will effectively increase your time as Monster Hulk since the full animation will play out regardless of the timer, and you’d be going out with a bang. Aim it towards healers and tanks for best results.

Hulk is not an easy hero to pick and play in Marvel Rivals. His whole transforming gimmick does require some getting used to and playing to the strengths of each form. There is a stark difference between the Hulk and Bruce Banner states, which can confuse you if you are not ready. Even the two Hulk forms require different play styles; the former is a hit-and-run frontline, while the latter is an in-your-face bulldozer that needs to be utilized efficiently.
