Godfrey/Hoarah Loux boss fight is not optional in Elden Ring. It is one of the last bosses before the end of the game and must be defeated to progress.

Strategies for Defeating Godfrey/Hoarah Loux

Below are some strategies for defeating Godfrey/Hoarah Loux boss in Elden Ring. The build you selected will determine the approach you should go for. We will cover the basic melee/magic caster strategies here:

Melee Strategy

The first phase of this fight is relatively the same as he was when you faced him before as a golden shade. Phase one isn’t too difficult, he does have a lot of stomps that you just need to roll through. The trick is to just stay close to him, and this allows you to roll through all of his axe attacks and you can also jump across some shockwaves.

Whenever he spins the axe a couple of times above his head, he’s going to always slam it into the ground, and then a second later he’s going to put his foot into the axe creating a bigger shock wave that you need to jump over and then you need to get out of the big AOE that’s about to explode on the ground.

Alternating between rolling through the shock waves and jumping over them is the right strategy. If you are close then roll, if you are far then jump. This habit will help you out in the second phase when the shockwaves are much bigger.

The move where he swings the axe and then drags it behind him and flips it over gives you the best opportunities for free follow-up damage. You don’t even need to block this attack, you can just move to his left and deal damage.

When his health is lowered to approximately 75%, he will unleash a massive shockwave which you can jump over like before if you manage to get away from him. The rest of the moves stays the same, the shockwaves just get bigger.

Melee Strategy

The Hoarah Loux (second phase) has a ton of grab attacks that you need to watch out for. There is one where he rakes his hands and charges towards you.

This is the deadliest grab and harder to react to. Back away from him and then as he gets really close to you, you want to roll backward. This will allow you to not get caught. If you are afraid you’ll get caught, use the Opaline Bubbletear shield from the Flask of Wondrous Physick.

The most devastating attack is when he leaps in the air and then crashes into the ground which then emits a screen-filling shock wave that you need to get out of asap.

Hoarah Loux’s attacks are very delayed, making them harder to judge and react to. As before, roll forward into the shockwave if you are close to him and backward if you are further away. Other than the big slam attacks, most of his attacks can be dodged by rolling toward him and to the right. Use these little windows to deal one or two hits.

Magic/Faith Strategy

Magic and Faith builds have to follow a similar pattern as melee builds. This boss is extremely aggressive and won’t give much opportunity to cast spells. You have to understand his moveset to react accordingly. Check the previous section for his movesets.

The start of the fight is the best time to unleash your most devastating spell. Godfrey will walk slowly toward you, giving you time to cast the Terra Magica buff and then cast Rennala’s or Ranni’s moon spell. This will inflict frostbite, making him susceptible to more damage. Frostbite will also work in phase two.

Fast-firing spells like Comet and Glintstone Cometshard will be your bread and butter. Glinstone Icecrag is slower but has the potential to proc frostbite.

Faith builds can replace the moon spell at the start with Borealis’s Mist for dealing frostbite. He is weak to lightning damage so Lightning Spear will work wonders.

Find openings and lob your spells in. Be extremely careful since his distance-closing attacks are quite lethal.
