Even Glowstone will work as well. You just need to be creative by making it fit with the aesthetic of your builds. If you don’t care about the look, just use whatever you can find. It doesn’t matter where you put it as long as the light source is within the water source’s proximity. Just make sure you can get around it without getting annoyed.
Keep the water area covered
Covering the water area is not a popular method, but it does work extremely well. If you have a garden, placing a lilypad on the patch of water in your garden will stop it from turning into ice. If you don’t have a lily pad, placing a slab a block or two above the water source will also help keep it liquid. A slab looks very weird just floating there, but it does work.
The look of the slab is why the method is unpopular, so if you don’t want to do it that way, the light method works perfectly fine. If it is a larger body of water, you don’t want to freeze; these methods also work the same on them. Make sure to cover all the blocks with a method, or else that water block will turn to ice.
Don’t build your base in a cold biome
This isn’t a method to stop water from freezing, but if you don’t want your water freezing, maybe think about building your base in a biome that doesn’t freeze all the water. It is a simple trick called moving somewhere else if you don’t like the area.
If you already have a base in a cold biome and don’t want to follow the previous methods, your water will become ice, and it will be a hassle to replace the water every five minutes. Just try your best to figure out where to build your base, and if you build in a cold area, follow the previous 2 methods.
