How To Upgrade Weapons In Hades (Easy Guide)

Hades has earned its praise owing to its amazing story and very tight and fast-paced action/combat. The game’s choice of godly upgrades and beautifully crafted weapons is the primary factor for such great combat.

There are 6 uniquely designed weapons or Infernal Arms, and each has 4 Aspects that further differentiate how a weapon plays. Considering how distinctly each one of these weapons and Aspects play, it can be said that the game has 24 weapons in total.

Not all of these weapons and their respective Aspects are available from the start and thus require some effort to unlock. You can further upgrade these weapon Aspects to make them even more devastating and effective in combat.

You can upgrade and unlock weapons by investing Titan Blood in each Aspect of the Infernal Arms. Also, you need to unlock the default weapon first, which can be done using Chthonic Keys. There are a total of 5 upgradable levels of each Aspect which requires varying numbers of Titan Blood to unlock/upgrade.

Upgrading Aspects Of Weapons / Infernal Arms

Unlocking and upgrading Aspects for each weapon requires Titan Blood. Titan Blood is one of several Artifact currencies that can be earned within the Underworld. It is a resource obtained via defeating bosses. It is primarily used to unlock and upgrade Weapon Aspects in the courtyard of the House of Hades, allowing Zagreus to customize his arsenal of Infernal Arms. Fully upgrading all Aspects of all weapons requires a total of 306 Titan Blood.

Titan Blood is earned through 6 sources:

Defeating the first and final bosses for the first time with each weapon (12 Titan Blood)
Bounties for defeating the first and final bosses for the first time with each weapon at each heat level up to 20 heat (240 Titan Blood)
Rewards from the Fated List of Minor Prophecies (43 Titan Blood)
Trades with the Wretched Broker
Charon’s shop in the Temple of Styx
Fishing in Greece or the final boss area

Stygian Blade

To reveal the hidden Aspect of Stygian Blade, i.e., Aspect of Arthur, you need to meet the following requirements:

Reveal the Aspect of Guan Yu (does not need to be unlocked with Titan Blood)
Have a total of 5 Titan Blood or more invested into Blade Aspects
Talk to Nyx until she gives you the waking phrase (“I see your kingly pardon from a prison of stone”)
Equip the Sword at the House and then interact with its placeholder to reveal the Aspect of Arthur

Eternal Spear

Unlocking Hidden Aspect Of Eternal Spear

To reveal the hidden Aspect of Eternal Spear, i.e., Aspect of Guan Yu, you need to meet the following requirements:

Purchase the Fated List of Minor Prophecies from the House Contractor
Reach the final boss (defeating the boss is not required)
Unlock any 5 non-Zagreus Aspects for any weapon using Titan Blood
Talk to Achilles (with any weapon equipped) until he gives you the waking phrase (“I see you through the eyes of the crimson phoenix”)
Equip the Spear at the House and then interact with its placeholder to reveal the Aspect of Guan Yu

Shield of Chaos

To reveal the hidden Aspect of Shield of Chaos, i.e., Aspect of Beowulf, you need to meet the following requirements:

Reveal the Aspect of Guan Yu (does not need to be unlocked with Titan Blood)
Have a total of 5 Titan Blood or more invested into Shield aspects
If you have not previously received the following dialogue from Chaos, talk to them with the Shield equipped until you do:
- “ You come to my domain bearing an all-seeing artifact that sprang from me after the dawn of time. It is considered a defensive instrument, I do believe. Though, I suspect you have discovered, or soon shall discover, it is nothing of the sort.”
Talk to Chaos (with any weapon equipped) until they give you the waking phrase (“I see you stand your ground against the serpent’s flame”)
Equip the Shield at the House and then interact with its placeholder to reveal the Aspect of Beowulf

Heart-Seeking Bow

To reveal the hidden Aspect of Heart-Seeking Bow, i.e., Aspect of Rama, you need to meet the following requirements:

Reveal the Aspect of Guan Yu (does not need to be unlocked with Titan Blood)
Have a total of 5 Titan Blood or more invested into Bow aspects
If you have not previously received the following dialogue from Artemis, talk to her with the Bow equipped until you do:
- “ Hey, how’d you get your hands on a nice bow like that? You take good care of Coronacht for me, so I can try it too once you’re up here.“
Talk to Artemis (with any weapon equipped) until she gives you the waking phrase (“I see you drawn in the arms of the seventh avatar”)
Equip the Bow at the House and then interact with its placeholder to reveal the Aspect of Rama

Twin Fists

To reveal the hidden Aspect of Twin Fists, i.e., Aspect of Gilgamesh, you need to meet the following requirements:

Reveal the Aspect of Guan Yu (does not need to be unlocked with Titan Blood}
Have a total of 5 Titan Blood or more invested into Fist aspects
If you have not previously received the following dialogue from Asterius (in his chamber before the fight with Theseus), fight him with the Fists equipped until you do:
- “ Huh. You mean to fight with me bare-handed this time, short one? I’m not ashamed to say the Champion himself defeated me in such a manner back when we drew breath.”
Seek fights with Asterius (with any weapon equipped) in his chamber until he gives you the waking phrase (“I see you overcome the wild and make peace with death”)
Equip the Fists at the House and then interact with their placeholder to reveal the Aspect of Gilgamesh

Adamant Rail

To reveal the hidden Aspect of Adamant Rail, i.e., Aspect of Lucifer, you need to meet the following requirements:

Reveal the Aspect of Guan Yu (does not need to be unlocked with Titan Blood)
Have a total of 5 Titan Blood or more invested into Rail aspects
Talk to Zeus (with any weapon equipped) until he gives you the waking phrase (“I see your prideful fall down from the heavens to the flames”)
Equip the Rail at the House and then interact with its placeholder to reveal the Aspect of Lucifer

Weapons / Infernal Arms In Hades

Weapons or Infernal Arms are your main mode of attack. Initially, only the Stygian Blade is available, but additional weapons can be unlocked by spending Chthonic Keys in the Arsenal Room. Unlocking all the weapons requires a total of 24 Chthonic Keys. They can be upgraded during a run with a Daedalus Hammer.

Each weapon has 4 “Aspects,” 3 of which can be unlocked using Titan Blood. Aspects become available one run after the Adamant Rail has been unlocked and the player has collected at least one Titan Blood.

Unlocking Weapons / Infernal Arms

As mentioned above, Infernal Arms are unlocked using Chthonic Keys. Chthonic Keys are one of several Artifact currencies found within the Underworld. They allow Zagreus to unlock additional upgrade choices at the Mirror of Night and additional Infernal Arms.

Chthonic Keys can be received as a room clear reward, from Charon’s shop, from the Fated List of Minor Prophecies, from the Wretched Broker, or from Fishing. Unlocking all the weapons requires a total of 24 Chthonic Keys.

Infernal Arms “Aspects” In Hades

Each Infernal Arms has a total of 4 Aspects. An Aspect will not only change the weapon’s appearance but will also improve its attacks and, in some cases, significantly change how it plays. This helps in keeping the combat fresh and impacts your overall build and playstyle for the run. Including all the Aspects, there are 24 Infernal Arms Aspects in Hades.

Titan Blood is needed to unlock each Aspect initially, and the subsequent upgrades require the same resource. Like all other weapons, each Aspect has 5 levels that can be upgraded by spending Titan Blood. The higher the level of the Aspect, the more effective its improvement is. Reaching the highest level in all Aspects requires 51 Titan Blood. The fourth Aspect of each weapon is a Hidden Aspect that only unlocks after certain criteria and actions are fulfilled, which will be discussed in detail below.
