How Fallen Order Fits Into the Star Wars Canon

Battles in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Originally released in 2019. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order follows the story of a surviving Padawan. A Jedi called Cal Kestis after the events of Revenge of the Sith. In that movie, we saw Anakin Skywalker turn to the dark side and attempt to kill all the young Padawan. This was done to wipe out all the Jedi.

The game itself has had a very interesting development period. We’ll discuss a little bit about the route of development the game adopted. And how it came to become part of the Star Wars canon.

Origins of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - Created by EA Studios

EA, in 2017, obtained the indefinite creative rights to develop video games under the Star Wars brand. EA also recently acquired Respawn Studios. That particular studio was developing a separate third-person melee action game. EA saw the game’s potential and offered to create a canon Star Wars story.

Respawn Studios, as we know, ultimately accepted this offer. And it was due to this that they could develop Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. At this point, several other factors, story events, and major plot details were also ironed out to make the connection to Star Wars apparent.

Connections With The Star Wars Universe

Inquisitors - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

As we previously expressed, there were several events within the story of Fallen Order. These directly relate to and tie the game to the greater Star Wars Universe. The very first event we find is the connection of Cal Kestis with the young Padawan. Who survived the slaughter by Anakin Skywalker.

After which in the later segments of the game, we can live through the infamous Order 66 purge of all Jedi members. This event is a major kicking-off point for the game. And thus acts as a major point in the story of Star Wars.

The second part of the story of Cal Kestis is to hunt down Inquisitors in the game. These Inquisitors were spies of the Empire that were garnering necessary information. Cal Kestis’ story involves directly stopping and executing these spies.

These connections all are a great midway point between the events of Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars movie: A New Hope. So if you were wondering whether you should experience the story of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, then you definitely should. Especially if you’re into Star Wars lore.
