Kratos and Atreus are back, and this time the stakes are higher than ever with the looming threat of Ragnarok. If you are ready to dive into God of War Ragnarok, there is no better time to embark on this journey. Wondering how long it’ll take to conquer this Norse saga?
On average, it will take a player 20-30 hours to complete the main story for God of War Ragnarok, along with a few side quests.
This handy guide provides more insight into the game’s offerings and the time it will take to complete them all.
How Long to Beat God of War Ragnarok?
Compared to some of the previous installments of God of War, Ragnarok’s storyline is meaty and substantial. While the game puts you on a somewhat linear path, there are still many side quests and activities to do besides the main pursuit.
However, the question of how long the God of War Ragnarok is, can’t be answered simply. Every player prioritizes different aspects of the game and based on everyone’s playstyle, the total hours required to beat the game will be different.
To simplify things, we have broken down playstyle into three broad categories and listed the estimated playtime for each one. Here is what you should expect:
Balanced
Playtime: 25 to 30 Hours
I feel like this is what the masses will do. A balanced approach is when you are primarily focused on the main story but occasionally wander off into the wild when things seem interesting.
During your 25 to 30 hours of playtime, you will comfortably be able to complete the main story while also picking up a few bits of collectibles and side quests and beating some of the optional bosses.
You should know that even if you complete the main story, the vast world of Ragnarok will still be available, and you can revisit it to complete the remaining side quests that you didn’t pick up on your first playthrough.
So you need not worry about the side quests. Once you finish the game, you can come back later and explore the depths without having to worry about the main plot.
Focused Speedrun
Playtime: 18 to 22 Hours
If you play the game only for the plot and focus on completing the main storyline, it will take you around 20 hours, which by God of War’s standard is still a beefy playtime.
This playtime doesn’t account for any of the sidequests or optional bosses. It may also vary based on your playing difficulty and skills.
100% Completion
Playtime: 55 to 60 Hours
For all the enthusiasts out there looking to get their money’s worth and complete every single objective, gather every possible collectible, and beat all bosses in existence, it is going to take you an average of 60 hours to complete God of War Ragnarok.
The world is vast and Kratos can do a lot. Between 9 realms and 18 chapters, you can easily spend hours before you complete every single objective. As mentioned before, you can do all of the side quests even after you complete the main storyline.
So you pace through the main story, grab some snacks, and explore the Nordic Realms for as long as you want because, like everyone else, we are also mesmerized by the scenic visuals Sony has put together for us.
How to Beat God of War Ragnarok DLC?
God of War Ranarok’s free DLC – Valhalla is packed with action that can keep you entertained for a while and the fact that it is free, makes it all the more worth it.
While the overall playtime varies from person to person, the difficulty you decide to play one, and how much you want to explore, generally, it will take you around 5 hours to beat the main storyline.
Even after you are done with the primary objective, there is still a lot of content to be unpacked in Valhalla. If you are going for that 100% mark, it should take you an additional 5-6 hours, bringing the tally to around 10 – 11 hours to complete the DLC 100%.
Rewards For Completing the GOW Ragnarok DLC
Once you complete the main story for God of War Ragnarok’s DLC – Valhalla, you will receive the following rewards:
- Three New Areas (The Desert of Lost Souls, The Aegean Boat, and The Forum)
- Legacy Spartan Rage Path
While the first reward is self-explanatory, The Legacy Spartan Rage Path might seem confusing. Once you unlock the Legacy Spartan Rage Path, you will be able to use Sword of Olympus even out of the DLC.
You will also receive the Spartan Armor Set, which lets you switch between Old and New Kratos, both in DLC and the base game.
