Elden Ring is an absolutely massive game that takes some decent hardware to run if you are on a PC. There are recommended specs to have for the game, and the developers recommend that you have at least 12GB of RAM to run the game. This is a recommendation and not mandatory.
You can run Elden Ring with 8GB of RAM if you only have the game running. It runs perfectly fine, with the exception of some stutters every once and a while. If you do have only 8GB of RAM, don’t worry. You will be able to play the game without any major problems.
The best thing to do is to turn off everything else in the background like Discord, Spotify, browsers, or any unused process to better send the RAM to the game. You won’t stutter as much and your gameplay experience will be a lot smoother. We would recommend that you get more RAM, but for the time being, you don’t have to have the recommended RAM to play the game.
What does RAM do when gaming?
RAM is important so that your computer can access the storage at the same pace that the rest of your computer can handle. If you have limited RAM, you might get a bunch of stutters because your computer is actually working faster than it can even handle. Having more RAM will give the rest of the computer the time it needs to finish its job.
This is important for gaming because it will actually ruin your gaming experience if you don’t have enough RAM. This means frequent Frame Drops, stuttering, and maybe even crashes to your game. You obviously don’t want this so your best option is to turn off any unused Process or upgrade to more RAM. Plus, if you have 8GB of DDR3 RAM, it will be pretty bad.
If you have 8GB of DDR4 RAM, it will run much better than the DDR3 versions. It is recommended that you have at least 16GB of RAM to have a smooth gameplay experience. You won’t use that much most of the time, but it is necessary for certain games. We like to have 32GB of RAM because we stream sometimes, so more is obviously better when it comes to RAM.
You can have too much RAM though. Some people have 128GB of RAM and there is no way that they will use it all at once. It is cool to have, but you really only need 16GB to do pretty much anything correctly. If you do have 8GB, you won’t have too much trouble booting up Elden RIng, or pretty much any other game out there.
It is not a crucial thing to upgrade your RAM, but it will benefit you a lot for future-proofing to either get better RAM or more RAM. It is extremely inefficient to try and use 8GB of RAM for most modern games because no game runs perfectly with that little amount of RAM. Always check Amazon or any electronic store to see if you can get some cheap RAM. Just make sure to buy from a reputable brand.
