Ultimate MultiVersus Tier List (Every Character Ranked)

MultiVersus is Warner Bros’ take on the Smash fighting game formula using characters from their iconic franchises from the likes of DC, Cartoon Network, and Game of Thrones, amongst others. It follows the staple of the genre with small packed arenas and playing style to back it up. The game is nearing release with select players getting their hands early on with the Alpha build and recently the Beta, with each iteration having reworked some of the fighters depending on the feedback the developers received.

Now that the Beta is gone and the release is right around the corner, the audience is eager to find out how their favorite characters have been changed and how well they perform in the game. Keeping that in mind, we are curating this tier list for all the fighters in MultiVersus.

C-Tier

Iron Giant

image 69

Iron Giant is a new character added to the roster and is somewhat viable, but in 2v2s he can struggle a bit. He can cover a lot of ground with his moves and can cover a lot of space forcing opponents to move out of the way, allowing their teammates to get easy follow-up attacks. Some of his moves are easy to combo off of as well, and his Neutral special is really good.

But the issue is his size and when you are that big you’re just naturally a punching bag. in 2v2s there are moments where you can get hit back and forth and pinballed to the point that it’s not easy to recover. He can tank much of the attacks and live to an extremely high percentage, but that just doesn’t make up for his huge size.

B-Tier

Taz

image 70

Taz was a weird character in the Alpha and was supposed to be nerfed quite a lot, but players are still complaining about him. At higher levels, his Tornado ability isn’t as effective, and there’s not much to work with in his kit. Though he works well as Cleanup. In a 2v2 setting, he can clean up kills for your team, he can rack up a lot of damage pretty quick too. Sadly, he has subpar Recovery compared to a lot of the class, and subpar Edge guarding. In general, he’s good now, and he’s good at Killing, but he’s not quite the best in the game.

Jake The Dog

image 71

Jake The Dog fits the same mold as Taz as he is good at Cleaning up kills and having a pretty good all-around game, but he doesn’t do anything quite as well and doesn’t have the skill ceiling as some of the other characters. Jake is adequately good with his grounded-up normal attack being amazing and his down special in the air is good too providing him a lot of utility and allowing him to do a lot of different things, but none of it is great, especially in a 2v2 setting.

Nothing is outstanding in his kit on its own. Although he has a lot of tools at his disposal, and they all serve a purpose, he doesn’t quite benefit his teammates enough or do 100% damage from comboing to racking up damage on his own.

Steven Universe

image 72

Steven Universe is a good character and is better than the previous two characters in this tier. He has more team utility, he has good combos, he can Kill, his Off-stage game is pretty solid, and there are a lot of unique interactions that he can pull off. The ceiling for a team that runs Steven can be really high if you’re good at playing around and knowing where to set up platforms, what kind of combos you can perform, and knowing ways to protect and heal. You can even turn the game into a 3v2 if you use him right. He has a lot of good things going for him. But you don’t see him enough, and when you do he’s a bit underwhelming for all the tools he has. Considering this, he needs to be put under a microscope to see how he develops over time.

Superman

image 73

Superman is on top of the B-tier and even borderline A-tier owing to the way his Air Dashes work, waking from the ground, easily dashing back and forth, and the ability to go up in the air and essentially fly around. This puts his aero-ability in a league of its own. His kill power is really good and is one of the best characters to steal Kills. With all of this, he even has good armor too. He also has unrivaled cheese potential as no other character in the game can go to the Blast Zone and grab someone and just kill him at 30%.

No other character can get Stocks so early on in the match potentially. So he has a unique niche, and he has insane movement, but just like Jake and Taz he also struggles to help out his team. considering this, he might be good for 1v1 matches and not in team settings.

A-Tier

Reindog

image 74

Reindog’s high position in the list is evident as players at the top of the leaderboards can be seen using this character. He can do it all, he can Zone, he can Kill, he can help out his teammates, and has generally a lot of utility and a unique play style. Not many characters in this game can fill all the niches that Reindog covers. He rounds out almost any team composition and is a great character overall.

Shaggy

image 75

Shaggy kind of covers the fundamentals of this game as he has a really good all-around kit. Previously, he was a B-tier character, but with a couple of buffs by the developers, he has shifted to an A-tier character. His Sandwich ability synergizes really well with his instant charge perk. He has good Kill power, good combo power, good movement, and can even buff his teammate. There is not much to complain about him and neither there is anything that’s insanely powerful about him. He’s a very solid character overall and one that anyone can easily pick.

Batman

image 76

Batman has gotten buffed in the Beta, and that has made him quite a potent character. Batman is able to get kills a little earlier with his Weakened ability though this ability is still kind of inconsistent at applying the status effect. The Smoke Reflecting projectiles are also a good addition to his kit. He is in a lot better and solid position than he was in the Alpha, but he’s still not in the top echelon of characters.

Harley Quinn

image 77

This might be a controversial position for Harley Quinn, but she is a damn good character. Being an assassin, she is relatively easier to play with, and you can very easily use her to climb the leaderboards. Although she doesn’t quite hit the same after the recent nerfs, her hits themselves are still quite good, combos are good, Kill power is good, and setups are all intact just that she is not quite as safe as she was before and a lot of the characters can easily air dodge some of her moves. Even though she has some of the same upside or advantages as an S-tier character, her recent defensive changes have brought her down to the A-tier.

Velma

image 78

Velma is a good character and similar to Reindog in terms of overall support. She can provide help from any end of the screen with her deadly projectiles, and things like Calling the Police after getting the pieces of evidence can lead to insta-kill if you can properly target somebody. There are a lot of good things about her, but she struggles with Rushdown characters that chase you. she is only viable in certain team compositions so that kind of limits her utility. Though she is really strong in certain situations, you just have to pick your battles.

Garnet

image 79

Garnet is a really good character with many things going for her. Garnett has projectiles that can Kill, she can buff her teammates, she has dash across screen ability, and good Kill power, amongst other great things in her kit. She has an amazing presence in the arena, but she doesn’t generally excel in any one niche either, and because of that, she’s going to be just shy of the S-tier.

S-Tier

Wonder Woman

image 80

Wonder Woman is a great character all around. She has all kinds of team utility, she has good combos, good recovery, good Off-stage game, and many other things that are going for her. Her down special is the ability that sets her apart. She can snap to her teammate, giving them both Super-Armor for one hit, and she can basically combo break for her teammate, completely reversing the situation, which can be game-changing. From having amazing abilities mentioned previously, to her overall amazing kit, these abilities push her to the upper strata of characters.

Tom And Jerry

image 82

Tom and Jerry is a go-to character for some of the best players in this genre. There are a lot of setups with Tom and Jerry, their normals are also really good for having such a strong zoning game. They can really mix up opponents with Tennis Ball tricks once they are shot across the screen. You can als set up things with your TNT and your Dynamite. Tom and Jerry can cover all the way across the stage pretty well, their off-stage game is amazing, considering both upper and downer. They are a very solid all-around character with great zoning tools as well as setup tools.

Arya Stark

image 83

Arya Stark is an assassin character and one with a ridiculous combo game. With Knife resets, backstabs, and all kinds of things, she can do a lot if you get to that skill level with her. She has a very high skill ceiling, so you are required to play around with her to understand her properly. She doesn’t really have the best Kill power, but she definitely has setups for it. Her combo game makes her quite a force to be reckoned with.

Bugs Bunny

image 81

Bugs Bunny is the character with the biggest toolkit in the game. He has an incredibly safe playing style from a range thanks to his missiles, being able to grab items, and being able to throw pies, all these different projectiles can force your opponents to act crazily and can also cover your movement. He can easily play the game risk-free, and all of this doesn’t even include his specials. His down special gives him a safe runaway and the ability to continue to set up so he can keep the pressure up and save his teammate without putting himself at risk. Bugs Bunny’s upper abilities are amazing for juggles and KOs, his recovery is really good, his Off-stage game is amazing and overall, there are no apparent downsides with playing this character.

Finn The Human

image 84

Finn the Human would have gone down the tiers considering he received quite a few nerfs but these changes haven’t affected Finn a lot and he feels quite similar to before. He is a little weaker, but he is generally pretty amazing and is quite safe to play with. With a good combo game, his up special offers a finisher to his combos as well, and he’s got a lot going for him. On top of that, he is quite fast.

The tier list above is made after playing the Beta and not the final release, so things are subject to change depending on the developers, but with MultiVersus being right around the corner, there is a chance that this list holds its relevance. If there is a huge difference, we will update this article.
