Margit, The Fell Omen Optional

Margit, The Fell Omen is an optional boss in Elden Ring. You need to defeat at least two Shardbearers to progress the main storyline.

Strategies for Defeating Margit, The Fell Omen

This section has compiled different strategies for melee and ranged/magic users. Every build plays very differently; hence you need to employ the right strategy for you when going up against Margit, The Fell Omen in Elden Ring:

Melee Strategy

As a melee character and a beginner, summon any Spirit Ashes at your disposal like the Wolves that can distract him for a little while.

They’re not meant to do damage but just distract him and also chip away at his stagger/poise meter. With enough damage, the boss will be stance broken giving you the opening to perform a critical strike.

Melee players who prefer an aggressive playstyle and let go of blocking will benefit from this stagger meter.

His combos are very erratic and hard to read, and they often have a wide swing that can reach you even if you are standing behind him. Sometimes he turns and hits you even if he is distracted by your summons.

So you’ve got to be prepared to dodge or block depending if you’re using a shield or not and you’re probably going to have to roll several times.

Melee Strategy

Wait for his combo to finish and try to get in one or two attacks. The best time to get in damage is when he’s focused on the summons.

Get in there when you have an opening preferably when he is at the end of his combo. Get in as many hits as possible and try stagger him with all your yours and summon’s attacks.

In phase two, he brings out a giant magic hammer and the fight gets a bit more crazy. What you want to look for here is his jump attack where he jumps up and pauses in the air only to plummet down with a massive slam.

With proper timing, roll into the attack negating all damage with your dodging I-frames so that you are standing beside him when he lands. The recovery time is long after this attack so go to town on him and give him everything you got.

Magic/Faith Strategy

If you’re playing a sorcerer-type build, you’re going to want to hang back and use your summons to distract him while you cast spells at him. Let your summons grab his attention once he turns to you.

He does have a dagger-throwing ranged attack that you need to be careful of. However, with enough separation, none of his regular attacks will reach you. Staying at the very ends of the arena will serve you better.

Another attack you should be aware of is when he is at mid-range. he will try to rush in with his staff primed to attack, get out of its way, and the combo that follows asap.

Magic/Faith Strategy

As for the previously mentioned jumping attack, instead of rolling into him, roll away from him so that you can use your spells safely while he recovers from his attacks.

The best sorceries for this fight are the trusty Glinstone Pebble or if you can get your hands on the Glinstone Stars.

Faith builds should avoid Holy damage spells since he is resistant to this damage type. Rely on the best flame, lightning, or even bleed incantations. Quick-casting spells will always be preferred.

Cheese Margit, The Fell Omen

The best way to cheese Margit, The Fell Omen is to poison him and watch as his health dwindles away. The best way of poisoning this early on in the game is through the Jellyfish Spirit Ashes or the Rotten Stray Ashes found in Caelid.

Regardless of the spirit you opt for, you should hold the attention of the boss while the summon attacks the boss to apply their poisoning effect.

Related:

The Jellyfish is tanky so it can withstand much of the damage from the boss so there is a lesser need to protect it. This spirit applies the Poison status effect which has a slower and lower tick damage.

As for the Rotten Stray ashes, they are extremely fragile so do not let the boss attack him multiple times. This summon applies the Scarlet Rot status effect which is much faster and has higher tick damage.

In both cases, the boss will go down with a single application of the respective status effect. Once it is applied, you can simply dodge his attacks and move to the other ends of the arena while the boss’s health whithers away.

To make this fight even more easier, use Margit’s Shackles item bought from Patches in Limgrave. Using this item will lock Margit in place for a few seconds giving you the time to get some free damage in. Use this item regardless of your build.

The fight against Margit starts off slower but ramps up in phase two. It is a great place to learn how to play and fend off bosses later on in the game. We do recommend facing him alone just to comprehend the game’s playstyle.
