Why You Received the “Not Payable on This Device” Error?
Hogwarts Legacy giving the “Not Playable on This Device” message is something that Xbox players got quite acquainted with when they tried to purchase. Understandably, you were frustrated, and you should be when you pay full price you expect the game to work no matter what.
Why did Xbox players receive this message? The answer is simple, but also is incredibly unfortunate for players of Xbox One. Hogwarts Legacy has already been released for the Xbox S and X. However, the release date for Xbox One is set for the start of May.
It is due to this discrepancy in release date that people who want to play Hogwarts Legacy on the Xbox One receive the error message. It’s the Xbox Store’s method of telling you that the game is not out on the Xbox One system yet. Despite it having been released on basically every other system.

Honestly, there isn’t a true fix for this issue. By the date of the release of this article, we’re still at the beginning of March. So if you were hoping to play Hogwarts Legacy on your Xbox One then you will have to wait.
The Hogwarts Legacy Collectors Editions will be available on Xbox One on May 5, 2023. It is at that point that anyone receiving an error message regarding the game will cease to get it. You will probably be able to play through the game regularly at that point as well.
This is good news because it just means that there is nothing wrong with your system. And, fortunately, there is nothing wrong with the game either. It’s simply a matter of release date confusion, and next-generation consoles getting preference over the last-generation systems.
