If you have been playing FromSoft games long enough, you will know about that Blue bar between health and stamina. Most people don’t care about this bar, but it is a lot more important in Elden Ring than you probably think it is. FP is the basis of all your Magic and Skill uses. If you have a very low FP bar, you won’t be able to do much.
There are only really 4 ways to increase your FP, and not all of them are permanent. You can level up your Mind attribute, use FP-boosting Talismans, find specific Crystal Tears for your Physick, or use items that decrease FP usage. Each of these is very important, especially if you have a Mage build.
If you don’t increase your FP and rely on skills, that is a bad idea because you will run out quickly. If you use FP a lot, reallocate some health flasks to FP flasks so you are always ready to give yourself extra FP when you need it most. Always watch your FP, so you don’t find yourself in a situation where you need it but don’t have it.
1. Level up your Mind attribute
Mind is an attribute that primarily influences FP, identical to MP or Mana in other titles. The more points in Mind a character has, the larger their focus pool and the more spells they can cast before requiring a recharge. It also influences the Focus Body Stat, improving a player’s resistance to Sleep and Madness effects.
You will need a decently high Mind level to cast specific spells, and summoning also takes a certain amount of FP. Ensure you have a good balance among all your stats and aren’t upgrading one too much. Always keep the bar filled, so you are ready for your next encounter. You won’t need to fill the bar too often the higher your Mind level is.
2. Use FP-boosting Talismans
There are a bunch of FP Talismans that will help you on your journey. Always remember that, at most, you can only have 4 total Talismans equipped. Try your best to determine which Talismans are best for your build. For Mind’s sake, you probably don’t want the Talismans that decrease other stats if you get hit a lot.
If you don’t want any debuffs, use the Talismans that give all the bonuses to ensure you don’t have any weaknesses. The best thing to do is base your whole build around FP, so you don’t miss out on anything.
Here is a list of all the FP-boosting Talismans:
- Cerulean Seed Talisman – Boosts FP restoration from Flask of Cerulean Tears
- Cerulean Amber Medallion – Raises maximum FP
- Marika’s Scarseal – Raises mind, intelligence, faith, and arcane, but also increases damage taken
- Preceptor’s Big Hat – Increases mind to the detriment of stamina
- Navy Hood – Increases mind
- Assassin’s Cerulean Dagger – Critical hits restore FP
- Glintstone Scarab – Lowers FP consumed by sorceries but increases damage taken
3. Find specific Crystal Tears for your Physick
If you haven’t found it, there is a Flask called the Flask of Wonderous Physick. It is a flask that is just like your other flasks, but you can customize them with specific items you find worldwide. There are a few Crystal Tears that you can use to customize the flask, and they are extremely important as an extra flask to use if you are in trouble.
There is a crystal that stops the decrease of any FP in your bar for about 15 seconds and another that fills half of your entire bar with FP. You can find 2 of them and then fill the entire bar with each drink. You only get one drink from the flask within each rest, and you must use it wisely. Just make sure you know what you are doing when customizing your flask.
4. Use items that decrease FP usage
There are a bunch of items, including Talismans, that will decrease the usage of your FP flasks. We already mentioned one before, and that is one of the Crystal Tears for the Physick Flask. There is a Talisman that decreases FP usage by 20%, which is one of the best items in the game. You get it from the giant in front of Caria Manor.
To unlock it in his shop, you will need to defeat a couple of main bosses, and it will allow you to purchase it from him for 5,000 Runes. It is a good investment. There aren’t any other items that are good for decreasing FP usage, but these will be your best options if you use too much FP at once.
