Elden Ring is a massive game that takes some decent hardware to run if you are on a PC. The game has recommended specs, and the developers recommend that you have at least 12GB of RAM to run the game. This is a recommendation and not mandatory.
You can run Elden Ring with 8GB of RAM if you only have the game running. It runs perfectly fine, except for some stutters every once and a while. If you do have only 8GB of RAM, don’t worry. You will be able to play the game without any major problems.
The best thing to do is turn off everything else in the background, like Discord, Spotify, browsers, or any unused process, to send the RAM to the game better. You won’t stutter as much, and your gameplay experience will be much smoother.
We recommend that you get more RAM, but for now, you don’t have to have the recommended RAM to play the game.
What does RAM do when gaming?
RAM is important so that your computer can access the storage at the same pace that the rest of your computer can handle. If you have limited RAM, you might get a bunch of stutters because your computer is working faster than it can even handle. Having more RAM will give the rest of the computer the time it needs to finish its job.
This is important for gaming because it will ruin your gaming experience if you don’t have enough RAM. This means frequent Frame Drops, stuttering, and maybe even crashes to your game. You don’t want this, so your best option is to turn off unused Processes or upgrade to more RAM. Plus, it will be pretty bad if you have 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
If you have 8GB of DDR4 RAM, it will run much better than the DDR3 versions. You should have at least 16GB of RAM to have a smooth gameplay experience. You won’t use that much most of the time, but it is necessary for certain games. We like to have 32GB of RAM because we stream sometimes, so more is better when it comes to RAM.
You can have too much RAM, though. Some people have 128GB of RAM, and there is no way that they will use it all at once. It is cool, but you only need 16GB to do anything correctly. If you have 8GB, you won’t have too much trouble booting up Elden Ring or any other game.
It is not crucial to upgrade your RAM, but it will benefit you a lot for future-proofing to either get better RAM or more RAM. It is extremely inefficient to try and use 8GB of RAM for most modern games because no game runs perfectly with that little amount of RAM. Always check Amazon or any electronic store to see if you can get some cheap RAM. Just make sure to buy from a reputable brand.
