The Witcher 3 has a massive open world. It has several neat little storylines hidden away in the many side missions in contains. However, these side missions can trip you up if you don’t know what you’re doing. And the Doors Slamming Shut Mission in The Witcher 3 is no different. How to Complete the Doors Slamming Shut Side Quest
Once you get this quest, all you have to do is go to the haunted house and defeat the Earth Elemental there. After that, you can collect your trophy and rewards. However, if it still seems confusing, here’s a step-by-step guide for you:
- You need to collect the contract notice to start this quest.
- This contract notice can be acquired from the notice board at, either, Hierarch Square, or the one that Gilsdorf
Note: If you approach the count before accepting this quest from the notice board, he will not talk to you.
- Once you have acquired this mission, you have to go to Kingfisher, at the North-East Corner of Hierarch Square.
- Once you’re at the Kingfisher, you need to go inside and climb the staircase at the back end of the pub.
- On the second floor, you’ll find Count Kurt Dysart, sitting alone smoking his pipe.
- You need to interact with him.
Talking To Kurt Dysart
- During your interaction, you will be asked which school you’re from.
- There are three options available to you.
- One is the truth, and the other two options are far from the truth.
- Whichever option you choose, he will make a different comment based on those options.
This is a frugal part of the quest, so you can choose whichever option you want. This section will not be important later on, so your decisions will be purely for your amusement. Afterward, he will go into a more important discussion.
- He will, then, let you know that he bought a house, whose previous owner was anxious to get rid of it, but that his men assume it is haunted due to the shaking ground and other unexplainable events.
- He will confess to you that he doesn’t believe in ghosts, but he does need the problem solved, whatever it may be.
- At this point, you can negotiate your demand even before accepting the quest. I asked for 300, but even if you don’t negotiate, you’ll get somewhere between 200 and 300.
Once you accept the commission, he will give you the key to his house, so you can go and investigate the situation.

Go to Moldavie Residence or the “Haunted House”
Once you get there, use the key you got from the count to unlock the door. Go inside and look around. In the second room, where the food is, you will feel the house shaking. You can examine the food there, before heading onwards.
You will find a bed in the next room. Even though it is not related to the quest, you can examine the chest at the foot of the bed. This chest contains a journal from the Moldavie Residence. It contains insight into the house’s history.
Continue exploring till you reach the stairs. At the top of the stairs, there’s some salt scattered on the floor. You can examine this salt (although, this is also not helpful to the quest at hand). After this, you will need to continue downstairs. There’s a room downstairs that contains a lot of loot. If you’re interested, you can claim it. If not, you can continue onwards with the quest.
The Crack In The Wall
Downstairs, Geralt will mention that he feels an air draft coming through a crack in the wall. You need to use Aard to break down that wall. Once you move through the hole you just created in the wall, you will discover elven ruins, that exist right underneath the house.
Moving further in, you will find an open journal at the far end of the room. This is Amaverick of Sorano’s Journal. You need to read it. After that, you need to examine the large “root” object on the other table.
The examination of both of these objects will allow Geralt (or you) to conclude that the problem with the house is the power Earth Elemental, Therazane. This conclusion will get you 25 .
After this, you will find yourself stuck because you will need to raise the blocked doorway. To do that, you need to jump into the water and swim down the hallway.
On the other end of the hallway, you will find a switch or a lever. You need to turn the switch, and it will eventually allow you to raise the door. After this, you can swim back to where you were and climb onto the platform.

The Earth Elemental
As soon as you approach the said door, you will see that the Earth Elemental is stuck behind a Force Field. Geralt notices that this force field is almost broken through. While the field bubble is up, you can look around the room safely, without the threat of being attacked.
Note: You will find two wooden supports in this room. While fighting Therazane, you need to make sure you don’t destroy these supports. However, if you do break them, and come back to the location after the quest is finished, a servant will tell you that Kurt died because the structure collapsed onto him.
Move towards the device behind the force field bubble. If you use Aard on it, it will shatter the bubble. During the process, you need to hurry back to the position you want to be in when you begin the fight.
Therazane Mechanics
During the fight with Therazane, it may use multiple mechanics against you. If it uses the “earth ring attack”, he might break the supports. It will be tricky to win the fight without breaking the support. However, you need to manage to, at least, preserve one support if you want Kurt to stay alive.
If you need to heal during the fight, you can always run outside the room to catch your breath. The elemental cannot follow you outside, so you will be safe.
Mechanics that you can use during the fight are Northern Wind and Dimeritium bombs. They’re both extremely helpful. Northern wind can freeze the elemental while the bombs will prevent it from using its magical abilities and attacks.
However, even if you do cease his magical abilities, it doesn’t guarantee that it won’t destroy the supports. Its punches are still extremely strong. However, it’s slow so you might be able to dodge its punches and quickly finish it off.

Aftermath
Once you’ve killed the earth element, Therazane, you should loot it for Earth Elemental Trophy. You will also find Cleaver Hood Sword. Killing Therazane will nullify the impact that Count Kurt mentioned his men were facing, which means you have completed your mission. You can now go back to him and claim your rewards.
Count Kurt will be extremely glad to hear that you finished his commission. If you didn’t negotiate with him first, he will hand you your bounty himself. It will chalk up to 200 and 300.
This is how you can acquire and solve the side quest, Doors Slamming Shut in The Witcher 3. We’ll meet next time with another mission and another bounty, Witcher!
