The Best Weapons in Dark Souls 3 and How to Get Them

There are many things that make Dark Souls 3 a very big game, but there is only one thing that can change up the gameplay entirely. That is the weapon that you are using. There are tons of weapon types like swords, greatswords, axes, hammers, spears, pyromancy, miracles, and many others. Every weapon has a purpose and is used for something different.

Each weapon can be infused with a certain material that gives it a different trait. An infusion can also change the damage and stats of the weapon, but it always makes up for the loss of a certain stat for something else in return. When choosing a certain infusion, you have to be really careful about which one you pick because if you make a mistake, you waste precious materials like gems and souls.

Here are the best weapons in Dark Souls 3:

  • Uchigatana
  • Sellsword Twinblades
  • Dark Sword
  • Murakumo
  • Heysel Pick
  • Arstor’s Spear
  • Chaos Blade
  • Twin Prince’s Greatsword
  • Zweihander
  • Battle Axe

Uchigatana

A unique katana characterized by the fine craftsmanship of an eastern land where it was forged. The finely-sharpened blade cuts flesh like butter and causes bleeding, but breaks easily as a result.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – This is a challenging weapon to get if you are just starting out. It is totally worth a try to go for this weapon in the beginning just because it is the best Dexterity weapon in the entire game. Once you get to the Firelink Shrine, walk out the main door. Once outside, take a right and head down the pathway with the multitude of bloodstains.

You will eventually come across a deprived man with an Uchigatana. All you have to do to get the weapon is to kill him, but this is no easy feat to accomplish. There is a way you can easily kill him and that is getting him to fall off the cliff next to where you fight him. Once he falls off, the sword will be given to you.

Infusion – There are multiple builds that a player with this Katana will be using and those are either a faith with pyromancy build or just a straight-up dexterity build. If you are going for the faith with pyromancy build, your best bet for infusion would be chaos infusion to maximize damage with fire. A dexterity build will be best by using a sharp gem to maximize damage with the blade.

Best Level – If you want to go for a dexterity build, then it would be best to upgrade your dexterity to 40-50 because that is the most you can get out of scaling. If you are going for a magic build, split your points into dexterity and intelligence because it will definitely help with your magic damage and ability.

Sellsword Twinblades

Paired scimitars used by certain sellswords. The scimitars’ sharp blades make for effective slashing attacks, but fare poorly against metal armor and tough scale-covered hides. With a scimitar in each hand, the wielder can vary their onslaught with unique left-handed attacks when in the proper stance.”

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – There are a total of 2 ways to get the Sellsword Twinblades. The first is the easiest way to get them and that is creating when you start a new character. In the character customization screen, all you have to pick as your starting class is the Mercenary and the weapon you start with is the Sellsword Twinblades.

The other way to get this is when you reach the Road of Sacrifices, go down into the swamp area. Spawn at the Halfway Fortress bonfire, and then run past or kill the Lycanthrope Hunters. Keep running until you find the entrance to the destroyed keep. Once there, turn left and run all the way past the Black Knight and the Sellsword Twinblades will be on the right.

Infusion – If you are going for a dexterity build, it would be best to use the sharp gem to infuse it because it has very good damage scaling as you level up. Even if you are going for a faith with dexterity build, it would still be good to infuse it with sharp. Just add a Yorshka Chime with it if you are going for faith.

Best Level – If going for a dexterity build, it would be best to bring your dexterity up to 40-50, and with the sharp infusion, every level will make the damage scale even higher than normal. With a faith with dexterity build, you will want to keep both faith and dexterity at about 30-40 to balance everything out.

Dark Sword

Pitch-black straight sword of the Darkwraith, survivor of the land swallowed by darkness. The Darkwraiths were the first red orb invaders, and originators of a unique sword technique inspired by their thick, broad blades.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – It is very different because the only way to get this sword is to farm Darkwraiths for it. It can be dropped by the Darkwraiths in Farron Keep located right before the Abyss Watchers fight, and also the Darkwraith right after the Tower on the Wall bonfire.

There is another main spot to farm the sword and that is near the Farron Keep Perimeter bonfire. Near the bonfire, there are 2 Darkwraiths that start to fight some Ghru. The Darkwraiths will most likely win the fight, but it drops their health significantly. You can then run in, and finish them off to try and get the sword.

Infusion – The best thing that you can do to get the max amount of damage and useability out of it is infuse it with a refined gem and have 40 dexterity and 40 strength. It will take you a little while to get up there with the points, but it is definitely worth it in the end. You can use either crystal or lightning to if you want.

Best Level – Obviously I said before that you need to have 40 strength and 40 dexterity, but it is not required to have both of them that high. Obviously, when you first start out, you will need to farm souls to get your stats higher, so it will take a while to get to where you want to be.

Murakumo

The curved greatsword of Alva, Seeker of the Spurned, specially forged in an eastern land. Sharp but heavy, this sword requires extreme strength and dexterity to wield. The search for the spurned had no end, and so the wayfaring knight warmed to a most deformed weapon.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – There is only one way to acquire this weapon and that requires you to be right before the Irithyll Dungeon bonfire. Once you get to that initial area, an invader will come into your world by the name of Alva, Seeker of the Spurned. Keep in mind that you have to be embered for someone to invade you. All you have to do to get the weapon is to kill her and it will drop.

Infusion – The best way to use this weapon is through a faith build. Infuse it with sharp and apply lightning to it for the max damage you can possibly get. Not only does this weapon do will with PvE, but it does also pretty well in PvP if that is what you are looking for.

Best Level – The best attributes that you can have for this weapon is 25 strength, 30 dexterity, and 30 faith. This will help in the elemental effects you put on the weapon during a fight and it will help in scaling the damage even higher.

Heysel Pick

Choice weapon of Yellowfinger Heysel, a Finger of Rosaria and xanthous scholar. It`s both a weapon and sorcery staff. The gold specks are remnants of lost sorceries.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – This can be found by killing an invader by the name of Yellowfinger Heysel. Remember that you must be embered for him to invade. All you have to do is go to the Road of Sacrifices and he will spawn. Kill him and get the Pick. Alternatively, if you can’t get him to spawn, a worm in the Rosaria’s Bed Chamber will drop it so don’t worry if he does not spawn because you can get it later on.

Infusion – You don’t really have to infuse this weapon because it is used mostly for sorceries. The weapon is usually two-handed and can be used as a regular weapon for extra damage. This weapon is for the people who like playing aggressive but also like using magic and sorceries.

Best Level – The best levels for the Heysel Pick would have to be 20 strength, 20 dexterity, 60 intelligence, and 15 faith. All of these upgrades help in the scaling of the base weapon and also helping increase the abilities of the spells that you will be casting. It is the perfect balance between melee and magic.

Arstor’s Spear

One of the curses that festered within the belly of the Greatwood, and a terrible weapon favored by Earl Arstor the Impaler. The spear is enwreathed in rotten, heavily poisonous meat. Defeating foes restores HP.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – It is very easy to get this spear because all you have to do is defeat the Cursed Rotted Greatwood. Once you defeat it, it will give you a Transposing Kiln and the Soul of the Rotted Greatwood. After getting the items, go back to the Firelink Shrine and transpose the soul into the spear. It also only takes 1000 souls to transpose so it is very cheap. Other than transposing there is no other way to get this weapon.

Infusion – This weapon can’t be infused or buffed in any way, but it can be upgraded. The only way to upgrade it is to use Titanite scales and the way you get them is to find them somewhere in the world or kill a very big enemy that is not a boss.

Best Level – Not much could be said about the levels that make this spear great but it does do best with dexterity scaling. To maximize the scaling, upgrade your dexterity to40-50 and you will be all set. You can then focus on upgrading other things like vitality and endurance.

Chaos Blade

A cursed sword of unknown origin bearing uncanny streaks on its blade. Attacks also damage its wielder. The sword is not unlike a thing misshappen, granted life, but never welcome in this world. In other words, chaos itself.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – You won’t get this weapon until you are very far into the game. The only place you can get this blade is by beating Champion Gundyr. Once that is done, go to the corresponding spot where you fought the Swordmaster to get the Uchigatana. It is sitting right there on the ground where he was standing near the Fire link Shrine.

Infusion – This is another weapon that can’t be infused or buffed. It is upgraded with Twinkling Titanite, which is the rarest upgrade material to find. You can also only upgrade it to +5 because that is all that Twinkling Titanite requires you to have.

Best Level – This weapon is the best Katana in the game and has the most physical damage on it than any other. It is best used with 30 strength and 40 dexterity, but the only downside to this weapon is that it slowly, I mean slowly drops your health bar. You can counter the effects with specific rings and miracles so it’s not a huge deal in the long-run.

Twin Prince’s Greatsword

Sword forged from the reunion of the inseparable swords born from the souls of Lothric and Lorian, the twin princes. Their union is rooted in a curse, and perpetuated by grief.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – This is probably one of the hardest weapons to get on this list because it requires you to beat a boss twice, one in NG and another in NG+. To get it, you must beat the Twin Princes twice in order to get it because you have to combine 2 swords to get it. Those two swords are Lothric’s Holy Sword and Lorian’s Greatsword and can be created through soul transposition.

Infusion – This weapon can’t be infused or buffed because it is a soul weapon. It can be upgraded with Titanite scales and does really well with scaling. It also has a special skill, but that is because it takes at least 1 and a half playthroughs to get.

Best Level – Because it takes soo long to get this weapon, the most damage you can possibly get out of it is to have 40 strength, 40 dexterity, 40 intelligence, and 40 faith. For those who have just started and want to use this weapon, good luck…

Zweihander

Ultra greatsword with a large, long blade. Wielded with two hands, yet still requiring great strength due to its weight. Execute powerful attacks that take advantage of its weight, or utilize its sharp blade in thrust attacks.”

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – This weapon is really easy to get because all you have to do is go to the High Wall of Lothric and let Greirat out of the cage. Once he is back at the Firelink Shrine, you can buy the sword from him for 6000 souls. If he dies, then you can give the ashes to the Handmaid and she will sell the sword to you.

Infusion – The best thing to infuse this weapon with is a sharp gem because it has really good scaling damage. It is also very good at slicing enemies. One thing you must keep in mind that this weapon has a special ability called Stomp where you do a lunging attack and deal massive damage.

Best Level – The best attributes to have with this weapon are 20 strength and 40 dexterity because dexterity scales better with level while strength stays the same. If you can, place the first level ups into the strength and dexterity slots if you want to have more damage versus health and stamina.

Battle Axe

Easily-wielded axe crafted for battle and inflicting standard damage. It’s weight can be used to inflict high damage, but must be used carefully as it leaves its wielder open to retaliation.

Dark Souls 3 item description

Location – This is the starting equipment for the Warrior at the start of the game. You can also find a Deep Battle Axe, which is very good if you can get it, can be found behind the fire-breathing dragon in the High Wall of Lothric. I would highly recommend getting the Deep Battle Axe because of its damage.

Infusion – Obviously the Deep infusion of the weapon has the best stats you can get from the weapon, but as I have said before, you can get one from a mimic. I would highly recommend this weapon for starter players because it is very easy to use even in the later game as well.

Best Level – You could do a raw build with 65 strength but the Deep infusion with 40 strength and 40 dexterity will do you a lot better than that. Plus, it deals extra deep damage to the enemies you are attacking.

Conclusion

I could probably go on with more weapons that are really good, but in my opinion, these are the top ten. HereOpens in a new tab. is a great guide to Dark Souls III on Amazon if you are interested. You are constantly finding new weapons and the basic player probably would just choose the one that they think looks the coolest. It is not about how the weapon looks, it is about how well it scales and the damage it does. If you are not sure about a weapon, just look it up on a wiki and find out about its scaling.
