Is Godskin Duo Optional?

Godskin Duo Optional

Godskin Duo is not an optional boss in Elden Ring. This particular variant of the boss found in Crumbling Farum Azula has to be killed to reach the end of the game.

Strategies for Defeating Godskin Duo

Before we get into the strategies for defeating the Godskin Duo boss, you need to know some crucial details for the fight. Both bosses share a single health bar. You can kill one of the Godskin but this will trigger the other boss to summon his partner again after some time.

If by chance you end up killing both bosses, either of the two will resurrect automatically soon. You need to finish off the entire health bar to end the fight. It doesn’t matter if one or both of them are alive at this point.

Below are some strategies for defeating the Godskin Duo boss in Elden Ring. The build you selected will determine the approach you should go for. We will cover the basic melee/magic caster strategies here:

Melee Strategy

The general advice for this fight, as a melee character especially, is to just leave the Godskin Noble alone. Don’t ever hit the Noble as I have noticed that this boss will be relatively less confrontational if you leave him be.

Focus only on the Godskin Apostle throughout the fight. The Apostle is much more manageable. Noble’s phase two is very aggressive compared to the Apostle’s second phase.

Noble does get a bit crazier once the Apostle goes down the first time but will revert to his tamer self once the Apsotle resurrects. Forcing the Noble to transition into phase two allows it to use its rolling attack which is incredibly annoying.

Melee Strategy

The Apostle’s attacks are a bit easier to punish especially in phase two when it gets all stretchy, you can roll in on its legs and deal some damage. When it returns to its normal size, you will get some time to continue your attacks. All of the attacks for both these bosses are the same as you must have faced before.

Be very careful when the Noble is on the other side of a pillar as its attacks can still go through and deal full damage to you. You have to pay very close attention to where they are at all times as best you can. Whenever you see Noble priming his giant rapier to stab you multiple times, start running away.

Keep on hitting and running the Apostle and taking advantage of his spaghetti stretch to deal considerable damage to this boss only. When the Apostle dies, do not engage with the Noble. Use the pillars to stay away from him, and he will summon the Apostle soon enough for your target.

Another thing to keep in mind, these bosses will make it hard for you to heal. As soon as you press your healing button, they will definitely lob a fireball at you.

Make sure you are behind a pillar or significantly away from them to heal. Although the pillars can be broken and the fireballs can be arced over them so this safe zone won’t work throughout the fight.

Just keep killing the Apostle, and soon the fight will be over.

Magic/Faith Strategy

Sorcerers can make quick work of this boss if they do this just right. For the best strategy you must have the following items:

  • Sleep Pots or Sleep Arrows – Both of these bosses are extremely susceptible to sleeping.
  • Comet Azur sorcery
  • Terra Magica spell
  • Flask of Wondorous Physick with the Cerulean Hidden Tear
Magic/Faith Strategy

When you enter the arena quickly put one of the duo to sleep using the pots or arrows. Next, you want to circle around the sleeping Godskin and put the other one to sleep as well, close to the previous one.

Once both of them are snoring, move to one side and target the furthest Godskin in a way that the other one is placed in between you two.

Now drink the Physick flask and cast the Terra Magica spell to fire the Comet Azur without running out of FP and buffing the damage out respectively. With both of them perfectly lined up, fire the Comet Azur spell and both of them will get caught in the beam’s stream.

A single continuous cast will be enough to take out both of them at once. Do not stop even when they die and disappear since the beam will keep damaging them.

Now wait for the Godskin to respawn. Summon spirit ashes or use the next best spell at your disposal like Comet to quickly take out the fresh Godskin before it can resurrect its buddy. This will be enough to kill the boss entirely.

Just make sure you put them back to sleep every chance you get.

The Godskin Duo is widely considered the most irritating boss fight in all of Elden Ring. Both these bosses are hard on their own and facing them together is just icing on this disgusting cake. Hopefully, your prior knowledge of facing them and the pillars in the arena will make it less of an annoyance. And do not forget to put them to bed.
