Strategies for Defeating Morgott, The Omen King

Below are some strategies for defeating Morgott, The Omen King boss in Elden Ring. The build you selected will determine the approach you should go for. We will cover the basic melee/magic caster strategies here:

Melee Strategy

Morgott has a few of his old Margit moves such as the big holy hammer and the holy daggers along with various awkward and quick melee attack combos.

He also has some new moves such as a big old holy spear that he’ll either throw at you or try to stab you with and a storm of holy swords that will rain down on you from above.

He also has some bloody attacks such as the bloody slash that leaves a red trail that explodes and a grab attack where he stabs you with his weapon and then flings you down onto the ground.

Once his health is down to about 50% he’ll start coughing violently, that’s your cue to get away from him as that means he’s about to unleash a splashy explosive AOE attack.

Melee Strategy

For most of his melee attacks you’re going to want to dodge to the side when he’s got the big hammer out, keep your distance from him, and dodge through his projectile attacks and the sword rain appears to fall in an “x” pattern so watch where the swords are falling and stay in the spaces without rain to avoid taking damage.

As for his stab-and-grab attack, you’ll want to dodge through that instead of away from it to avoid being skewered as that move has quite a reach on it.

As a melee build, choose a weapon that deals slash damage, Frostbite, and/or Hemorrhage/bleed.

Since Morgott and Margit are the same person that means that the Margit Shackle item will still stun him for a short duration, the same way it did back at Stormveil Castle. You could use the shackle twice during the first portion of this boss fight.

Keep slashing, frosting, bleeding, and shackling Morgott and you should be able to dethrone this king.

Magic/Faith Strategy

Magic and Faith builds equipped with your best sorceries/incantations will melt Morgott’s health but since he’s so quick, he can catch up to you before you can even pop off your spells. Summoning Melina or a tanky spirit ash like the Mimic Tear is a good way to keep the pressure off of you while you blast him with spells.

Magic/Faith Strategy

The Incantations that work best during this fight are; Catch Flame, Frenzied Burst, and Lightning Spear.

As for Sorceries, the best ones are; Caria Slicer, Night Comet, Great Glintstone Shard, and Glintstone Icecrag.

If you are able to maintain a relatively large distance then many of the boss’s ranged attacks won’t pose much threat. You can use this time to lob your spells in. With enough distance, he will try to walk slowly towards you giving you the opportunity to go casting crazy.

Just keep in mind, he will try to cover the space between you, and once he is close enough, get ready for the incoming projectiles as he has many of these.

Can You Cheese Morgott, The Omen King?

Cheesing Morgott, The Omen King

The actual cheese for this boss got patched out so we have to rely on a Rotten Breath strategy to cheese Morgott. For this, you need to have the Rotten Breath Dragon Communion Incantation, the Margit Shackle item, and a few Sleep Pots. Having a tanky spirit summon will be beneficial too.

When you enter the arena, use the Shackle to lock the boss in place and fire off the Rotten Breath. The single Scarlet Rot infliction will tick away around half of his health. While the health dwindles away, you need to dodge his attacks. Attack if you want but it is not necessary.

Related:

As soon as the Rot runs out, either use the Shackle again (if it works) or use the Sleep Pot to put him down and use the Rotten Breath again. 2 to 3 Rotten Breaths will be enough to kill the boss. This is a protracted method but quite potent if you know how to survive.

If you have the spirit summon, or NPC summon with you, this cheese will be much quicker since it will divert the boss’s attention.

Morgott, The Omen King is a much more aggressive form of Margit but not that hard in the grand scheme of things. With the right setup, capitalizing on his weaknesses, and the Margit Shackle, the fight will be over quickly.
