5 Best Crossbows In Dark Souls 3

5 Best Crossbows In Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 has a ton of weapon types, but bows and crossbows are by far the least used weapons in the game. The reason it is unused is because of the awkward firing that each weapon does and the fact that you do need to stock up on ammo each time you use a bunch. It isn’t an easy weapon to use, but it is definitely a good one if you know what you are doing.

There aren’t that many crossbows in Dark Souls 3, so we have made a list of the 5 best crossbows so you don’t have to worry about which one is better than the other. Obviously, each crossbow is good for different things and we will go over what each crossbow has over the others.

All the crossbows on this list are great, but there are some that are better than others. Some are very close but the farther you get down the list, the more pros they have. If you are looking for the best crossbow, then number 1 is probably going to be your best choice. It is considered the best crossbow in the game.

Are Crossbows any good?

Crossbows are one of the best-ranged weapons in the game. Bows are good, but if you want pure damage, then crossbows are the way to go. Not only do they have a longer range, but they also deal a ton of extra damage to the enemy you are fighting. They are slow to reload, but it is worth it if you can hit your shot.

They can also be equipped with multiple types of bolts. You can have the regular bolts, or you can get elemental bolts that are great for bosses and enemies with a ton of health. You can get lightning bolts, bleed bolts, and even poison bolts that are great for almost every enemy. Crossbows are definitely worth using if you get the chance.

What are the best Crossbows?

Obviously, this list of crossbows goes from worst to best, but that does not mean that the higher numbers aren’t worth using. All the crossbows on this list are worth using, it just totally depends on your playstyle and which one you want to use. There are multiple types of crossbows on this list so keep that in mind.

Some of them are heavier than others so you might like a lighter weapon. Some reload quicker than others and you mih=ght not care how long the reload takes. It just depends on what you are looking for. We have placed these crossbows in the order of overall stats, so we hope you will experiment with each one to see what you will like the best.

Here are the 5 best Crossbows you can find and use in Dark Souls 3:

5. Light Crossbow

Standard crossbow wielded by common soldiers. Must be readied before firing. Bolts must be equipped in order to use crossbows. Up to two kinds of bolt can be equipped at a time, and these can be switched between as necessary.

Location: Sold by Greirat of the Undead Settlement for 1,000 Souls. It is also dropped by the Hollow Soldiers in the High Wall of Lothric.

This is the smallest crossbow available in the game. Not only is it the smallest crossbow, that means that it can be reloaded fairly quickly and used very quickly. It is a great option if you don’t want to have a heavy weapon in your hand for a long period of time.

A light crossbow is a great option for those players that don’t rely on the crossbow itself. It is a great secondary weapon for those who want to have a build with a ranged weapon and a melee weapon. This makes you a fierce opponent far away and up close.

Skill: Tackle – Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.

4. Knight’s Crossbow

Crossbow used by the proud knights of Lothric. It bears an elaborate gold design. The crossbow has been blessed with the power of lightning, in anticipation of the use of Lightning Bolts.

Location: Sold by Greirat of the Undead Settlement for 3,000 Souls once he returns from pillaging Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. It is also dropped by the sword-wielding Lothric Knights in the High Wall of Lothric.

This crossbow is actually very similar to the light crossbow in a lot of ways. It is also the second-lightest crossbow in the game and is a great choice if you want to deal lightning damage. The crossbow does very well with lightning bolts and it is a very good weapon for those who want to use it as a secondary weapon.

You don’t actually need lightning bolts to deal lightning damage, so if you are in an area with water, you can fire at the water and it will deal extra damage since the lightning hits the water. It is a weapon that is difficult to use as the main weapon, but it is the best secondary weapon you can use.

Skill: Tackle – Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.

3. Avelyn

An extremely rare rapid-firing crossbow. Fires three successive bolts by means of an elaborate mechanism. Inflict heavy damage by making all three shots count. Despite its use as a weapon, this crossbow is also a priceless work of art, and it bears resemblance to a musical instrument.

Location: Found in the Grand Archives, on top of a bookshelf on the right section of the building. You will have to get on the third floor to drop down onto the bookshelf itself on the lower floor.

This is one of the most unique weapons in the game since it actually fires 3 bolts at the same time. It is actually the heaviest crossbow in the game, but if you don’t really care much about the weight of the weapon, it can be extremely deadly if you know what you are doing with it.

It is actually one of the easiest crossbows to use since tracking your target is extremely easy. Since you fire off 3 bolts, you can easily keep track of where you are firing the bolts. You will need to get close to the target to deal the most damage, so make sure you know what you are doing.

Skill: Tackle – Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.

2. Heavy Crossbow

A large, powerful crossbow. Must be readied before firing. Bolts must be equipped in order to use crossbows. Up to two kinds of bolts can be equipped at a time, and these can be switched as necessary.

Location: Dropped by the crossbow-wielding Cathedral Knight found on the rafters of the Cathedral of the Deep. You will need to get on the roof of the building first to reach this area.

This crossbow is going to be most people’s choice when trying to choose a crossbow to use. Not only is it lighter than some of the other crossbows, but it also has some of the best range out of all the other crossbows. It does take a bit more Strength to wield it, but it is worth using if you can get it.

It has some insanely good stats that are well balanced and it makes for one of the best crossbows to use in the game. It does have a slow reload, but the damage output of the weapon makes up for the slowness of the weapon. If you can hit your shots, this weapon is one of the best.

Skill: Tackle – Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.

1. Arbalest

The largest crossbow, and suitably powerful for its size. The bow string is made of metal, requiring great strength to fire.

Location: Dropped by crossbow-wielding Devouts of the Deep in the Cathedral of the Deep. It can also be found after the rafters in the roof section of the Cathedral of the Deep. You will need to take an elevator to get to this section.

This is the largest crossbow in the game, but it isn’t the heaviest. It takes a lot of strength to wield it, but it is by far the most balanced and best crossbow in the game. It is a weapon that is best used with two hands since it does take a bit of time to fire off a shot.

Since it is such a good weapon, you can literally use it as your main weapon. It is a variant of the heavy crossbow, but it definitely lives up to what people say about it. It does very well in both PvP and PvE, so if you are looking for a great crossbow, this one is your best bet besides the heavy crossbow.

Skill: Tackle – Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.

When is a Crossbow useful?

Crossbows are weapons that have very small requirements to use. Plus, they only need to be held with one hand to fire. This makes it a great option as a secondary weapon. Not only are they easy to use, but they also deal a lot more damage than a regular bow that takes both hands to use properly.

Keep in mind that there is very little scaling with these weapons so if your character is not attribute-based, then crossbows will be a great weapon option for basically any encounter. If you are curious about crossbows, then get the cheapest crossbow and test it out for yourself. You might find a weapon that is extremely fun to use.
