How to Build an Enchanting Table

To craft an Enchantment table, you will require the following materials:

  • A crafting table
  • 4 Obsidian Blocks
  • 2 Diamonds
  • 1 Book

Crafting the enchantment table itself is quite an easy process if you have the above-mentioned materials. Simply place the 3 Obsidian blocks in the lowest row of the Crafting table menu with 1 Obsidian Block in the second lowest row in the center column.

Then place 2 Diamonds, one on each side of the Obsidian Block on the second row. Finally, cap everything off with a Book placed on the first row in the center column.

How to Obtain Obsidian Blocks?

Obsidian is the strongest material Block that you can mine. It can be obtained from lava beds near sea levels and is created due to a lava source interacting with flowing water.

To mine Obsidian Blocks, however, you will be required to use a Diamond Pickaxe or better. Otherwise, you may break the block using other materials but will not be able to collect the Obsidian Block.

How to obtain a Diamond?

Diamonds are an extremely rare mineral and can only be found near caverns and within chests. An Iron, Diamond, or Nethrite Pickaxe can be used to mine naturally occurring Diamond Ore to produce one single diamond. Your fortune level can influence the amount of Diamonds dropped through this method.

How to obtain a Book?

Books are craft-able items that can be obtained by fusing together three pieces of paper and 1 piece of leather.

Moreover, you can obtain books by looting chests found within Libraries or Strongholds or by trading with Librarian NPCs.

Best Enchantment Set Up

Bookshelves needed to reach different levels of enchantments in Minecraft

To obtain the best setup for your Enchantment table you will need to surround it with 15 Bookshelves. However, you must ensure that there is at least 1 Block of free space between the Enchantment table and the surrounding Bookshelves for the buff to take effect.

Each Bookshelf adds 2 levels to the chance of enchanting a high-level enchants, so the removal of any of the 15 bookshelves reduces our Enchantment level from 30 to 28.

Moreover, you can recognize that the effect of the bookshelves is activated when their Galactic symbols begin to appear over the Enchantment table.

How to Enchant Items?

You can begin the process of enchanting your items by first right-clicking on the enchantment table. After that, you must place in one of the enchantment slots the item that you wish to enchant in the first place.

In the other slot, you must place a Lapis Lazuli which will ultimately be used up in order to complete the enchantment process. Depending on which level of enchantment you are doing you will be required to provide a sufficient amount of Lapis Lazuli.

It is thus depending on the amount of Lapis Lazuli available and your level that you will be presented with enchantment options. Picking any of these options will come at a cost of up to 3 levels worth of experience.

What this essentially means is that if you pick the first option at Level 4 enchantment, then it will cost you 1 Lapis Lazuli to perform and will drain 1 level’s worth of experience from your character.

Similarly, picking the second option at Level 15 enchantment will cost 2 Lapis Lazuli whilst draining 2 Levels, and the third option at Level 30 will cost 3 Lapis Lazuli and drain 3 Levels of experience.

How to obtain Lapis Lazuli?

Lapis Lazuli is perhaps the most valuable resource for enchanting the entire game. First and foremost, it’s important to know where you can obtain Lapis Lazuli. It is thus to that end that we’re here to help. The following are the key areas where Lapis Lazuli can be found.

  • Lapis Lazuli can be found in the form of an ore right next to Diamond ores. This is usually in the 14th layer. Once this ore is mined, players will note that it drops between four and eight pieces of Lapis Lazuli that can be utilized in enchantment.
  • The second area where Lapis Lazuli can be found in abandoned Mineshafts. You may find Lapis Lazuli in one of the Minecarts with a chest inside of it. If opened, they can reveal the item and it can be claimed by players for their personal use.
  • It can be traded for Cleric Villagers. Cleric villagers, in particular, can be traded with to obtain Lapis Lazuli. This is done by simply giving them an emerald, and they will usually return the trade by giving you a Lapis Lazuli. This is probably one of the easiest ways to get the item, but certainly time-consuming.
  • There is also a chance that a wandering trader will be willing to exchange an emerald for 3 pieces of Lapis Lazuli, but this is far more inconsistent and depends on finding appropriate traders.

How to enchant a book?

Perhaps the best method to stock up on numerous enchantments to craft fully enchanted weapons, armor, and tools is to use enchanted books. The process of enchanting books is easy, but it is also very random so requires that you do some trial and error as you’re getting through it.

The way to obtain the enchanted books, however, is simply to utilize normal books as the item you wish to enchant and spend Lapis Lazuli and experience points.

Related:

It is always a good idea to stock up on as many max-level enchantments via enchantment books as you possibly can. This is because later you can fuse them with desired items by using an Anvil.

The Anvil works similarly to the enchantment table and allows us to fuse desired items with enchantment books to obtain vastly powerful max-level enchantments.

How to craft and use an Anvil?

In order to craft an Anvil you will be required to have the prerequisite amount of iron materials. These include the following:

  • 3 Iron Blocks
  • 4 Iron Ingots

Once you have obtained these items then it is important to arrange them in the proper order to form an anvil. Place the 3 Iron Blocks on the top row of the menu on a crafting table.

After that’s done place one iron ingot in the central column of the middle row and place 3 separate iron ingots in the last row. Simply craft and you will obtain your Anvil.

image 48

One thing to keep in mind when utilizing Anvils is that they have a limited amount of uses. This means that there will come a point where the Anvil will no longer be able to craft any more enchantments and thus will require you to craft a new Anvil altogether.

This can make utilizing the Anvil a very expensive matter, however, Anvils are exceptionally helpful in fusing powerful enchantments with items.

Using the Anvil for Enchantment

An example of using the Anvil has been provided in the picture displayed above. Now in the above example, an enchantment of Efficiency IV already existed on the Diamond Pickaxe and was stored in the enchanted book.

Those two Efficiency IV items merged together to form a Diamond Pickaxe with the Efficiency V enchantment. Thus providing superior enchantments by utilizing the Anvil as a method of crafting.

Additionally, the Anvil can also be used in order to change the name of items that can be placed within its merger slots. This allows us to reduce the amount of clutter on their stat block so we can swiftly and easily recognize what version of the item we are using and have different ones lined up for various circumstances.
